LCI Lounge Leather not as good as pre-LCI

I just traded in my 2009 Clubman with black lounge leather for a 2012 with hot chocolate lounge leather. I swear the 2012 leather is not as thick or buttery soft. Anyone else noticed this?

Maybe it just needs some leather lotion massaged in? I know my '08 redwood lounge leather is very thick. Something to watch out for.
