Honking at fellow MINI drivers?

Recently took delivery of an 08 MCS Chilli-Red

While waiting for the car to arrive, I received the secret hand signals booklet (thereby admitting me to the MINI cult). Does anyone actually use these? Is there a "Hello " signal folks are using? (I should be careful with this - the last time I was part of a motoring cult - 1970's Renault Citroen - I crashed and the car was a write-off... )

You wave! Or thumbs up! Also welcome to NAM and enjoy your MINI post pictures once you have time!

I've gotten honks, waves, and headlight flashes from other MINI's. I think any greeting is good, especially when done with enthusiasm!

A simple wave is not as common as it once was, and isn't obligatory, but it is a very nice gesture. I suggest waving, but if it's not returned, don't give up (folks may be preoccupied)....someone will wave back one of these days as it is a MINI-thing.

I try to wave when I'm not currently using both hands, or if the other Mini's going the same direction I'll flash the front/rear fogs instead. I've even gotten a few waves back.

I'll honk and/or wave, and I've gotten the same responses back. I'd have to say I've gotten about a 75% or better return response when traveling opposite directions.

It's always good to see the smile on the other owner's face when they wave, because we know we're in an elite group.
