Official sex of the MINI
Hi everyone,
I am soon getting my first car ever and it's going to a BRG MINI convertible. Ever since I ordered my MINI I've been thinking of whether I should look at it as a him or her. And today in the owner's lounge I happened to read the status of my MINI.....
Though still adjusting.......and lots of partying with its brothers
So to everyone who's named their MINIs after girls, your MINI might be having gender issues
Aashish

agreed. madeline or Maddy is still a girl because boy cars can't keep themselves this clean and move with this cat like prowess. although i'm a man my car is far from a beast. so i've always looked at her as a girl. prolly because i come from the muscle car scene.
lol its really all up to you... we have two minis LJ, our pepper white 07MCS which is a girl, and Gordon, our mellow yellow 07MCS. we didnt make them both girls simply because we thought it would be cutier to have one of each but alot of people around here have girls. i wouldnt say our cars have gender issues its just kind of whatever your preference is.
i've always said that if a car has 1 exhaust it's a male, if has 2 exhausts side by side it's a female... if it has two exhausts that go 2 different ways it's a 2 male car and if it has 4 exhausts it a 2 female car...

Good to know that
"Official sex?" Sounds very Soviet Politburo or something. We can neither confirm nor deny...
At any rate, we tend to lend and extend our humanity to lots of creatures and "things" around us. It's a celebration of who we are. It makes us happy. That's not so hard to understand is it? Come on people indeed!

IMHO the car decides, but a MINI tells you.
In high school I inherited a 10yo beater (5-door Nissan Sentra) with over 100k miles, and I named him Fred as an homage to the Flintstones.
After that I bought a new car (Nissan Sentra) that was affordable and had a reputation for being low maintenance and having good reliability...and it did. Got me through college and my early professional career. Regardless, at the time this was a great upgrade from Fred, so I ended up naming him Fredrick.
After a head on accident I had to replace Fredrick. That's when I got an '06 MCS CR/W WBS. On the ride home from the dealer, she whispered her name to me....'Nila.

I know I'm new to this, since I've only had my MINI for 3 days, but I swear - as one who's never named a car before - that he told me his name. My husband thinks I'm nuts, that all cars should be female, but I firmly believe my MINI is a male.
Your hubby could be drawing from historical maritime custom, where the Captain would name his ship after his wife because they would be separated for long periods of time. Perhaps he feels neglected because you spend so much time with Tristan!

RR Hounds,
In the infamous tradition of going off topic, wouldn't it have been ironic if Tristan arrived on the freight ship Isolde?!? For those not familiar, there is an old Celtic Myth that tells of a love triangle between Mark, Isolde, and Tristan. It was made into a movie named "Tristan & Isolde" (2006?).

True Joy,
Had to post because my 1st new car was a Nissan Sentra too. Before that I had a few old Nissan beaters, since my step-dad was a Nissan mechanic. The Sentra was the most reliable car we've ever had, til it finally died at over 10 yrs. old and ~130K miles. Never had a problem with it til then.
Anyway back on topic...my husband was trying to decide on a boy or girl name when he picked up the car he says it told him it was a girl and that of the names he was considering, she wanted to be called Rita. So now I know, I can't name mine until it gets here.

The little darlings let us know, don't they!
Mine was definitely a girl from shortly after conception, but there are some I see that are boys for sure! Silly? Well, maybe a bit. . . but SO fun!!

True Joy - While straying off topic for a minute more - you are dead on - Tristan did arrive on the Isolde. The 'how you named your MINI topic' has my story on it - but to this day I don't believe I knew what ship he was on until a few days after he named himself. And I haven't seen the movie or opera.
I've posted somewhere else that I'm the second owner of my MINI. Previous owner in CA is a woman who considered it a she, but when I crossed into Arizona, something happened.
