Window Tinting Problem

Anyone with window tinting....has it ever fallen off due to the way the front windows go up & down every time you open & close the doors? Is this going to be a problem if I get tinting on my windows. Really need the tinting as it is hot, hot, hot in summer. njp

My old car, a '90 PLymouth Laser(cousin to the 1st gen Mitsubishi Eclipse and Dodge Talon), I had tinted right from when I got it brand new with 3m smoked window tint. I never had any peeling or bubbling till ten years afterwards. I got rid of it by the 12th year of ownership. So I wouldn't worry so much about tinting peeling or fading if done with good film and a reputable shop for at least 5 years or so.

Most of the commenters up to now have said "never happened to me". It *has* happened to me (not on the the MINI but on a different vehicle).

If this ever *does* happen to you, then its because the person who did your windows did a substandard job at it or used poor quality materials (or in my case, both!). So, yes, it could happen, and if it did, I would go back to the tint shop and make a fuss.

the boob didn't clean the windows

The installer either didn't clean the windows well enough to get rid of all oils (Fingerprints and other smudges) or touched the window with his, her greasy hands (Didn't use latex gloves). Oils and tint bonding agents are not copatible. This often happens when the person is rushed eg. a club group install of tint

For added measure you can bevel the edge of the tint so it isn't blunt. Most installers will cut the tint at an angle to the glass so it seats into the frame nicely.
Realizing that the window does do a little jiggy when the door opens, its about the same as glass seating up into a window frame. Probably less stress than that actually.

My tint guy did an awesome job on mine, and I've had no problems with 1.5 years. The tint has about a gap || that wide between the top of the tint and top of my window.

Well, sounds like I'm getting my windows tinted. So, which color or pattern is the best, or most liked, & can you only tint part of the window & not the entire window? njp
