My Poor MINI

I have only had my mini 3 weeks and I cracked the front bumper yesterday pulling into a driveway. There was a bump at the front of the driveway and I hit it a little hard.

She's going into surgery Thursday. Body shop said it will take $1600 and 7 days to fix.

Anyone else have a similar mishap. I guess I need to get used to driving a car that sits so low.

I hope my insurance doesn't go up too much!

your comprehensive claims don't increase your premium.

Sorry to hear of your mishap - I try to keep below 80 mph when pulling into my driveway.

Try to find a used one on ebay. At most you can get one for 200 or so. You might have trouble with you year because it is an 07. But I would check around to see if anyone is selling theirs becuase they upgraded. $1600 is steep. Was there more damage than the bumper cover?

Yes. The black trim at the bottom of the bumper, the silver bumper right above that, the black grill and the condenser. Just bad luck. There was a crack in the driveway that ripped off and damaged those parts.

State Farm said since I was at fault, my premiums might go up.

Yes unfortunately it would be considered a collision loss.

Perhaps it is too late now, but there are bumper repair mobile companies that can come to you and fix/repaint the bumper, good as new I might add, without having to take it off the car and done in 2-3 hours while you wait, home or office. The repairs are done professionally at a fraction of the cost of the body shop and you don't have to lose use of the car.

Often the cost of repairs is less or equal than your insurance deductible.

Google "Mobile bumper repair". It is amazing how bumpers that were believed to be trashed can be made to look brand new again, thus savaging your factory finish.

yea.. a deer jumping in front of you or a chunk of rubber flying off a truck tire or a rock to the windshield would be comprehensive..

you hit a pothole or a driveway curb while driving.. its collision.

i would consider paying out of pocket.. state farm will ding you at least a 10%surcharge for 3 years..
do the math..
i raised my collision to 1,000 and pay the small stuff myself.

keep the comprehensive low for the annoying crap.

sorry about your loss.. it sucks.!!!

If I don't pull in my driveway just right I hit bottom too. That's a heart breaker. Anyway, it could have been worst. Happy motoring & take it eazy up the drive.
