6' here and the most comment I get when I tell them I'm getting a MINI is if I'm going to fit in that. I don't really understand why they think there's no room in the MINI! (Ok, maybe the name threw them off...)

So what's your usual answer when people ask/complain that you won't fit? How are their reactions when they get in the car, do they feel it's bigger than expected?

Jealousy... that's what it is. You can find cars more practical, faster and roomier than the MINI....but you can't find one with more fun for the buck. Everybody wants one and dreams of having one, but few are willing to step out. We here are the smart ones and we KNOW what makes a car great. Let the others drool....

most people who ask those dreaded questions have never been in a mini cooper or they have kids.... so of course it would be a small car to them.

When I first sat in a MINI I was overjoyed. It was the first fun car I'd tried that I fit in easily. People who think a MINI is small need to visit their local Lotus club meeting. I can ride uncomfortably in a Europa as a passenger, and I can drive an Esprit with my shoes off. A couple guys at work have Elises, but I haven't tried them on yet. A coworker who's about 7'3" definitely could not do my MINI, which was really too bad because I wanted to get a pic of both of us in it. He ran out of space between the wheel and the console.

7'3? wowsers! Yea, you can fit in those cars but are you COMFORTABLE? Is it safe to ride in a car if you are a bigger size? I can fit in a audi tt but is extremely unsafe! lol Therefore I wont be riding in one nor buying on...although i wanted one :(

I'm a little over 6'10" and I've learned comfort is a relative thing. My MINI is far more comfortable than any airline seat. As far as safety, no vintage Lotus has very good passive safety. Active safety yes, passive no. Although the Esprit may have been especially questionable, since I was looking out above the windshield.

I agree with your premise: is the roll protection high enough, does the crush zone have enough distance, blah blah, but you can spend your life worrying about that or get on with it. I choose #2. Besides, even I think it is funny to see a big guy in a small car...

5'6 1/2".

FYI, Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavs NBA races a JCW R53 in the invitational Mini Cooper in Europe. I think he's 7 ft+.
