I have heated seats and love them, and wish I had gotten xenons. But I live in Indiana, not NC (but I did grow up in Raleigh- graduated from NCSU). I have the heated seats on below about 50F or so (of course, I drive with the top down more than 95% of the convertibles I see on the road- maybe 99%). If I recall, that's the average high in Raleigh in January. Heated seats do buy you another 5-10F degrees of top down use and definitely keep you warmer (I think the MINI heater is rather weak myself), but you may simply not need them more than a few weeks of the year.
So I think both options are worthy to consider. But if I were you, I'd probably go with the xenons if I planned to continue living in warm weather climates.

I live in Alaska, so both are very important to me. If I had to pick between the two - I'd go with the xenons. Most of the roads I drive on do not have street lights, so I'll take all the additional light I can have. I'm even considering adding the driving lights to my MCS. Xenons are a safety-enhancing option in my opinion...
On a side note, I bought my '04 MCS used and it does not have the cold weather pkg, but it does have the xenons. I don't regret the purchase at all!

D.B.'s my first car with either Xenons or Heated Seats. While the seats are nice (The Frau hates'em cause she says they make her feel like she's pissed her pants
) what I don't think I'll ever get a car again without, are the Xenons

I'd get the xenons. You can use them year round. The seat heaters will be used, what, maybe 25% of the year at best? And if you're parked outside in the sun during winter, you'll probably need them even less. I say this since you live in NC. If you lived up north it would be a different story
So true...
on all counts. You'll be using the xenons a lot more than the butt warmers--but the warmers come in handy if you experience frigid temperatures (like, say, 20 degrees) and have non-cloth seats.

I think you should pose this question to the convertible crowd. I'm not saying that the tintop owner's opinions are less valid, but when it comes to heated seats in a convertible, its completely different. Actually if you do a search in the convertible forum for heated seats I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on its importance
