MINIs are so much fun to drive so why...
That's great to hear guys!!
Can you guys tell us your secret in keeping your MINI clean and running smooth at all times?
Hmmm, I got my '06 in Mid June 2006, so I've had Mirth about 16 months. Last I remember looking at the odo it was over 34,000. So, no I don't understand the really low milage ones. Concider them bargains when shopping for a used one.
I recently sold a 10-year old Honda Civic with 175k miles on it, and the only part of the car that would have looked out-of-place on a two-year-old car was some of the black-anodized exterior trim. It got a little dull/chalky over the years, and unlike plastic or rubber trim, there's not much you can do to revive it.
Of course, I guess 80-100 miles a day is different from 40 miles per day, but I sometimes wish my commute were about 10 miles longer each way.
Our MINIs only have about 20k miles each (both 2006 models), but I've kept plenty of cars until they had 175-250k miles on them, and honestly, as long as you keep up with the routine maintenance and develop good habits with washing/detailing the cars (basically keeping "swirl marks" to a minimum and keeping a good wax/sealant on the car), there's really not a lot you have to do.

I actually can't wait for Darkness to post those pics.
^I don't have the pictures from the show yet (still waiting for the CD to come in the mail). Those mini's were pretty bad, but the owners probably didn't know any better and haven't been taught like I have, which is fine.
It's not fun when it's rush hour and you're only going 5mph, with some clown behind you trying to get closer each time you stop. Since it was Memphis, I shut the A/C off in those situation so the car doesn't overheat so it would get pretty hot. If it was spirited driving the whole way, I would have never moved.
As far as keeping a high mile car nice you're right on. Constant oil changes / maintenance, weekly washing, monthly waxing, and about every 3 months I try to do a full out detail to remove swirls, and every 6 months a completel over haul including cleaning the engine bay / undercarraige / everything. Also, when applicable, apply heavy duty sealants in the winter for protection (I'm just now learning this part) to keep rust off and clean as often as you can. My car is driven daily in the sun, the rain, and the snow and win's the show on saturday and goes to autoX on sunday. It's a trooper!

It's not hard for 1-2 year old car to look much older, even right after a wash. Dusty/stained interior, swirl marks all over the paint, wax/sealant built up in the crevices and around emblems, suspension/brake parts that have obviously never been cleaned, scratches/dents in the paint from poor parking habits, constantly bumping into the car while it's in the garage, leaning up again the car with riveted jeans, carelessness when loading/unloading the car, and the list goes on.
We've had our Mini a little over two years and have 24,000 miles on it. My wife and I both used to drive it to work every day (we work opposite shifts), but my wife started to take our two little ones to preschool four days a week this fall, and since the Subaru has four doors, it is much easer for her to get them in and out. I haven't driven it quite as much the last two summer since I got the Miata, and have commuted to work in it much of the time during the summer. Our Mini is fun to drive, but so are our other three cars.

My April 06 build has 18K currently. I drove 16K in the first 4 months as daily driver right off the bat when I first got it. Now, it is a garaged weekend car/toy car until my primary dies if it ever does. I try not to drive mine in the harsh salty winters if I can. Having said this, I plan to keep it for a long time. When the time comes, it may become a daily driver again. I do agree that if one takes care and follows proper maintenance procedures, today's cars can last a long time. My 00' Focus ZX3 currently has 205K miles and is still drives/looks good as new. The only problem is the harsh salty winters up here really take a toll on the undercarriage.
I've got an 06 that I have had for 14 months. Almost 23K miles on it now. I go on more errands than I used to.
I'm gonna keep it until I'm worm food.
My last car I had for 16 years with over 250K miles.

My car is my fun car. It is 2.5 years old and it has 23500 miles. My commute was 100 miles a day so I would only drive it to work a few times a month, besides driving to work is not my idea of fun. The expressways around Chicago are anything but. The MINI will soon be put into storage for the winter as I like driving my truck in the snow.
