Thanks for the warning on Cooper Tires. Glad you are ok.

What will you drive until you receive your 08? It will be a few months...

I'm driving an 2000 Mercedes E Class. It's not as cool as the mini for sure!

Sorry to hear that.

Did you have any excessive camber on the tire that blew out? With low profile tires, that might have caused it.

First of all, I hope all is well and that you are healthy.

I too, wrecked my 04 MCS last week and believe me I feel your pain! My car has many of the same problems as yours, but without the airbags, and so far the damage is at 50% of the ACV. The body shop has to tear it apart to inspect the engine and the frame. Enough about me... they total the car when the damage reaches 75% of the ACV, so you are looking at about $12,000 in damage before they total it. (ACV is apparently calculated by the wholesale value).

Another Mini sustains major damage but doesn't severly injure it's driver, what a Car! Glad you are okay, have fun with your new Mini when you get it and post new car pics! A few months ago I saw a Mini damaged not quite as bad, they were going to fix it. I asked what the Mini had hit, they said a Ford F150 head on............... the Ford was totalled, the driver of the Ford had a broken leg and ribs, the Mini driver walked away! Energy dispersion!

I did not have excessive camber on the tires because my car is not lowered. My car is stock. I did have a 50 series tire but that shouldn’t make the sidewall of the tire weak. I’m not sure what caused the blow out.

I’m sorry to hear about your wreck too. I hope you are ok as well. I think the damage to the sub frame and cross members was enough to total the car. I do not think it was possible to return my car back to its original form after that type of damage. Did they total your car too?

I was talking to the shop and they told me that most likey it will be a total loss because both sub frames are bent. The cross memeber is damaged too! I was going about 70 mph when I hit the wall.
Sorry to hear of your loss. Did the accident happen in Houston? Going to buy another MINI?

Sorry about the car. Always a bummer when that happens. However, it did its job and saved your life. Thanks BMW and mini for making such incredible cars.

Ovrezee....in your post above, #31, you mention about a MINI vs Ford 150.....would love to know more details...how fast?...and pics of that head-on of MINI vs Ford 150......a while back there was a thread thread of crash tests of MINI vs Ford 150 showing each into a concrete barrier and how the MINI fared much much better.......but then the general consensus was yeah, if you were to hit a tree or barrier, you'd be better off in the MINI, but if you were to be in head-on with a 150, it might be better to be in the 150 due to 'the laws of physics'....but maybe would be better after all to be in the MINI

are there any other reports, with pictures, of a MINI vs a Ford 150, or similar?

Sorry to hear about Betty, but this is an excellent testimonial for how safe the MINI truly is! This is but just one of the reasons why I own one. RIP Betty, you did well!

Thanks everyone!

Betty was totaled a few weeks back. I just finished all the paper work last week. I put an order in for a 07 Pepper White MCS. "Zoe" as I have named her should be here at the end of the month. I really do miss driving Betty!

Hey--are you a member of HMMS? If so, my daughter, Michelle (Topless Blonde) named HER MINI Zoe. She might have a trademark on the name.

I'm not a member of HMMS yet but I will be soon. If Michelle names her mini Zoe then she's got a twin .

LOL...I did go see the wall . The wall was fine like nothing hit it. Well some of Betty's paint was there on there and that was about it. I consider those battle scars.

Thanks,

So sorry to hear about your loss. I'm curious, were you running 15" holies in the rear and 16" on the front? Or was that just for this picture?

From the other pics in the link in the first post (particularly the last photo in the set), it looks like the car had 16" wheels all the way around at the time. The other photos of the wheel/tire that shedded look like the 16" too.
