How do I get there?

I need some advice. I've got a trip coming up--Houston to Tampa, FL. I do NOT want to go I-10--boring as h@LL, even in ordinary cars! I hate that route. Can anyone suggest a MINI-friendly route that won't take substantially more time? It's about 1100 miles via 10/75, on average I do it in 1 1/2 days.

Hmmm, that's why there are interstates. Boring as they are, they get you there quick. That said, here are a few interesting diversions that aren't far from I-10/I-12. These are past Gulf South Motoring runs.

September 9 Fun Run - northeast of Baton Rouge
The whole thing took most of a day. I recommend Sligo rd. & Jones Vaugn Creek Rd. About halfway down page 3 is a link to a google map. You can zoom in and print what you want if you don't have a nav that takes waypoints.

Hilltop Run
This is a pretty drive, some of it VERY curvy and right alongside a bayou. It is immediately south of I-12, just east of BR. Maurepas is the best part.

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I need! I know you can't beat interstates, but you can't beat diversions, too, and I figure the "natives" know their favorite roads.

Google maps is great for planning routes.

True 'nuff--but only the natives know where it's WORTH going! Google people don't have MINIs (I think). For example, Hwy 19 in Florida is a real PITA, with lots of little towns and traffic, lots of cops, and little to recommend it! (Sorry if you live there...)

I can't believe it! Doesn't anyone (except davavd) have a favorite twistie run somewhere between Houston and Tampa? I'm gong to take his "Hilltop Run" but how 'bout some others?

What can I say? I spent several months stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. Bought my MGB while down there, and never once found any fun roads.

California has completely spoiled me as far as twisties go.

There is another road I thought of, 98. I drove it last time I came home from the beach in Alabama. It's just on the east side of Mobile Bay - goes from Spanish Fort ( at I-10) south for a while, then turns east toward Foley. The north-south part is beautiful, but once it turns east, it's all over. Until you get to the beach, of course. I LUV the beach.

Just as a follow up--I took davavd's "Hilltop Run" and it was great! Highly recommended as an alternative to straight line hypnosis.
