TRADED IN THE MINI!

sorry to have left the club guys! it was a real pleasure driving my 06 mcs and getting so many waves from my fellow drivers! i have never felt such sadness leaving a car. i ordered it from germany and waited and waited for it to be built, it was like my child! has anyone else felt like that? haha, but now the good news, i traded it in for a 2003 BMW CPO M3 with 12k miles on it for 37k! some old guy kept it in his garage and barely drove it! ive had it for a few days now and it sure makes getting over the mini easy! what do ya guys think?

M3's are cool, just make sure the motor has had the recall service done. The early ones have a tendency to go BOOM without the fix.

If it's CPO i'm sure they've done the bearings on it.

We all do what we have to do at times - the M3 is nothing to be ashamed of - that's for sure! Nice car...

Catastrophic engine failure Took BMW a long time before fessing up that it was a design flaw, blaming earlier incidents on user error.

Nope, sorry. No sedan will every replace a Mini. If you'd have gotten a Z3, you might have been forgiven.

Great.

2003 with 12,000 miles! That's 3,000 miles per year or less!
My 2003 has only 37,000 and that's pretty low but at least I drive it.

Well take the M3 to the track or at least some high performance driving events/school. Be alert for your MINI brothers and sisters on the track with you because they will be there in greater numbers than fellow M3 owners. At least that's very true in my area. MINIs outnumber M3s by about 2:1 to 3:1 at most events.

In the mean time, what kind of mpg do you get with an M3?

Anybody in their right mind would have traded up if they had the means and given the chance. Great choice.

Well while your at it why not a Z4M??

That covers both sides, and quite nicely too.

Okay, so I'm not in my right mind.:impatient I have the means and was given the chance, but still wanted the darn ol Mini. Still happy as can be with my decision. Everyone has their reasons.

boarder054 - so glad to see that you are happy with the switch. That's what counts. I'm sure there are many forums and clubs to get involved with surrounding your new purchase. That just adds to the joy.

I agree, make sure the latest TSB on the bearings was done; I would (and did) also regularly send in oil samples to Blackstone to monitor things and let service know if anything starts looking funky.

Enjoy the M3, they are fun cars

Never drove one when I worked at the dealer, but we had one there. Quite nice....but rather expensive imo.

Why not split the difference and get an M Roadster?

Because they're kind of fugly? I was so sad when BMW ditched the Z3 for the Z4. If I lived in a slightly warmer climate I'd be used Z3 shopping instead of new Mini shopping. But I don't think it'll be much of a sacrifice.

I really can't stand any of the current BMW designs. They did manage to make the new 3 series not completely hideous, but in doing so blanded it up so much that from the back you might as well be driving a Camry or an Accord.

The M3 is my dream car! Great choice! I actually saw an Audi RS4 yesterday and that is an incredible car. As I sped along with him behind me, he pulled next to me and made that car roar. I believe he came off the ground!

Great car! IIRC the bearing issue was only the 2001 MY. You can research quickly at m3forums.com.

I however, must be out of my mind, as I'm leaving an M3 for a PW MCS soon to arrive.

GL with the M!
