Is it only in the uk that highway departments but down chippings on good roads ,to stop them from wearing to fast.
my local council resurfaced my local road with new asphalt, two months later
they but chippings down from were the new asphalt finished and continued for three quaters of a mile in the opposite direction.
Now their is a 20 mph speed limit to stop throwing up stones and you always
get one person in a works pickup who does 50mph and dosent care a dam
if he damages other cars .

 

Sometimes here in the States you get cheap resurfacing where they lay down some tar, toss some gravel on it, and call it done.

 

It's common where I live- and just as aggravating!

They do it where my parents live in Wisconsin...always in the fall. I think they think it gives more traction in the snow, or something.
