Apology for the R53 vs R56 thread
1. We really need a tongue-in-cheek emoticon to fill that empty space on the lower right corner of our smilies. I think the best typed version is :-?
2. What I appreciated about that R53/R56 thread was that it's clear that most people now aren't taking these discussions quite so seriously anymore. It seemed pretty tame to me and it contained some pretty good humor. A few people got a little bit serious but compared to past threads on this topic I thought this one was rather civil. I think most of us now recognize the pre-R56 as a fun slightly unrefined car that's a blast to drive .. a true seat-of-the-pants driver's car. And I think for the most part we recognize the R56 as having many refinements that make it a better car in many ways, but the price that's been paid is the loss of some of that seat-of-the-pants character. But both are capable of doing on the track, in the mountains, and anywhere else you might name, the kinds of things that gave the Mini Cooper its current reputation. And, for sure, those capabilities are what people are still looking for and finding in this car.

Group hug, dammit!
One person's seeing what they consider a "refinement" is another person's "disappointment."
A Mini is a MINI is a MINI...and the community is made up of all of them and all of us.

You gotta problem with hugging?
The group hug is my nice way of moderating......

It will be a one on one affair. I will heart it from behind... grunge style...
I just didn't see anything there that warranted getting the thread locked.
Seemed to be one of the more lighter/all in fun R53vs.R56 threads I've seen to date. Now it could have taken a turn later on... but the lock seemed a little pre-emptive at best.I understand it's "old territory" but people want to voice their opinions or just poke fun at the whole subject. There will just be another one poping up down the road. Maybe we could stop taking this all too seriously?
You really want a hug, dontch'ya Clo?
...and goaljnky: I've allready determined my R56 'aint no catcher. He's definately one of those cheeky little puppies that tends to go to town on your leg before any heavy petting, then runs off before recipricating in any way. Not even a little lick. Terrible! Don't worry, it's just a dominance thing. He's not really attracted to you, either.
Wow, these forums are going to get wild when the Clubman is made available. I'm thinking I'll skip the R56, keep my R53, sell my turbo PT Cruiser and add a Clubman S (I'm aware there is already controversy here about an S model) if it's big enough for "stuff " a few years down the road...sounds like a plan.

BTW, I totally agree; it seems that thread was axed pretty damn early. Hadn't gotten really hostile or anything (yet), so i don't know what was up with that...

When I saw that thread started by SiperX, I knew the pot was being stirred. Now he'll probably go after the Harley riders.

Promises, promises
Shhhh
Did you know that the R56 exhaust tips are bigger than the R53?
Very nice, I love Ducati's

Oooh, baby, talk dirty to me...
Examples:
1. You don't need to wail away at the starter with a hammer to get the solenoid to engage.
2. Heating the car in winter time does not involve flint and steel and cumbustible materials.
3. Parking on a hill does not require mashing a tire against the curb.
4. Monitoring fuel level does not require the use of a broom stick.
Anybody have other examples?
Come to think of it, the defining difference is spelled L-U-C-A-S (except for the brake issue).
Reminds me of a joke:
Why do the Brits like drinking warm beer:
You would too if you had to rely on Lucas refrigeration.
Oh PUHLEEZE if you weren't married.. and I weren't uhm... uhm... having clutch problems...
