UPDATE

Just talked to Niello, and Gromit should be ready on Friday. They had to replace the clips that hold various things to the hood, the plastic around the wheel arch, fix the metal, sand, prime and repaint the entire hood. Very cool that last part, because it's taking care of some rock chips!

The paint will have to cure for 30-days before the stripes can be reapplied. Booo.

Yes, on the Mini I call it a hood. On my MGB it's the bonnet.

My distinction between a partly British car, and a full blooded British car.

OI!

I'VE GOT ME GROMIT BACK!

Picked him up tonight, but he's being a nudist for a bit. They can't reinstall his hood stripes until the paint has cured for a month.

You might want to check your alignment too.. it probably hit your wheel quite hard.

It will, insurance was involved. The only consequence is that it will qualify as cosmetic.

Put some wax on it as soon as it has cured. Visit the detailing forum.

Never touched the wheels. Check the orignal post and photos. The other car hit the SUV's first, and just nudged into my car kinda sideways. My car didn't move, shudder or vibrate. At first, I didn't even think I was touched.

Doesn't matter to me at all. I intend to own Gromit until no one in their right mind will buy it. Like my 1975 MGB.

Hmm...not to be picky...but...

After looking at the 1st & 3rd pics, your beltline on the 1st pic doesn't line up with the bonnet beltline like it does on the 3rd pic. You were hit on the driver side, correct?

Might be the lighting (early evening) when I took the recent pics, but believe me, I did a thorough eye exam when I picked him up. Everything is lined up properly. They did a great job.

It was the kids fault and he was right there. There should be no deductible unless you're in a no fault state.

It was posted earlier in the thread but AAA waived the deductable right off the bat.

I never got the fully cure thing. I was in a similar situation recently, but I guess I would take the place of one of the SUVs. If the paint isn't fully cured, doesn't it run the risk of being damaged since it's outside and all that stuff? Not sure what wax does to the paint that you can't wax it for a month. Also, odd to read you gave him credit for standing up to it, not like he could run from the scene.

Paint is "dry" when it comes out of the bodyshop, but it is still venting some gasses over a few weeks. It's plenty dry enough for normal weather, but not absolutely "hard" yet. If you apply graphics during that time, bubbles will appear under the graphics.

As far as the kid goes, he could have split with his three buddies, and there wouldn't have been anything we could have done about it to stop him.

Chalk one up for AAA. I have State Farm and they've always been great as well. Glad to hear when an insurance company takes care of their customer.

Big thumbs up!

Glad to hear that your baby is back on it's feet.

Have you made up for lost driving time yet?
