Ouch! So sorry about the accident, but really admire your wonderful attitude. Please go to your doctor and get checked out...personal injuries aren't always obvious immediately after such a collision. Keep us posted.

I would actually try to take extra precautions to make sure the ins. company doesn't go through with fixing it, you don't want to be driving that thing again. Just count your blessings and start hunting for a new one.

Those pictures make me cring.

I don't know what I'd do if that was my pride and joy, sorry about the misfortune.

Do I see a Dark Silver mini in your future??

Although you car shows several indicators of unibody structral damage, only a complete inspection after disassembly will reveal the full extent of the operations required to perform a proper, high quality repair.

If the car is deemed to be repairable, be sure to ask for before and after printouts of the unibody structural measurements. If suspension components and/or mounting points are affected, also ask for suspension alignment sheets. A proper collision-repair alignment should include measurements of items that are often skipped over in "set the toe and let it go" alignments of the sort featured in car maintenance ads. The reason for asking for these is that it is possible to make adjustments to suspension parts in a way that masks unrepaired unibody damage, such as shifting of the tops of strut or shock towers relative to the rest of the car's structure. A good alignment sheet will show not only things like total camber/caster/toe, but individual LH and RH measurements relative to reference lines or points on the vehicle and SAI (steering axis inclination.) The printout should also list the nominal specifications and acceptable tolerance ranges for each measurement (if a spec for that dimension is published.)
^^^+1 to all of the above. I would be very suprised if anyone will be able to truly fix that car correctly. I'm very sorry.

So did the Perch make it out OK? (look on the bright side, right!?!)

My sentiments exactly. When I saw the bend forward of the gas cap, I thought "total". Anyway, glad you and your passenger weren't injured.

But I don't want a new one! I want my old one!!

I'm pretty much resigned to an R56 in my future. At least the ride comfort's better right? Besides the driver's seat leany-back mechanism is pretty jacked now. The only way I can drive is doing the "pimp slouch" and my arms aren't that long.

ahamos & turcicus- funny thing was, the grille badge was the only personal effect I forgot to get out of/off the car! I'll grab it when I meet the insurance adjuster out there tomorrow.

Stoops- A break in visit might be in order! As always, I'll give Freddie love from Aunt Emily.

indygomini
- great advice on getting all the assorted measurements. The passenger side rear quarter panel was totally pristine but the left side and the battery box does worry me quite a bit.

Mishka- that's exactly what my wife said! It was only an **** kissing insofaras stepping in a ring with Mike Tyson is only slightly stupid.

89AKurt- ya know, I'm not sure if she was on her cell phone...I know she had one because she was on it after the wreck. The po-po said she was gonna be charged anyway, but I'll raise the question if I have to. "Son of a ***** must pay!!" Sorry, watched "Big Trouble in Little China" the other day... Quarter mile car, huh? It is lighter without all that pesky paint and bumper and whatnot.

Clo- I'm actually feeling pretty good, the neck is a little sore but no moreso than after falling down during a good bender.

That badge is spotless, I hope they don't count it when the insurance company is determining whether to total it or not.

That sucks worse than a tornado. It's well and truly totaled though. Looking at the battery box photo, you can see the uni-body is buckled.

Salvage any good mods you have.

glad you're fine, man! i got rear-ended by a mustang pulling a donut in a parking lot last year! $2300 of damage. the mini is so small, everything gets crammed together. not to dampen your spirits, but i think it'll be an expensive fix, but good luck with it. let us know the outcome.

glad you and your dog are ok. I agree with the others when they say that even if it was fixed it would never be the same, I hope the insurance company takes good care of you and gives you enough to get a new MINI. Good luck and keep us informed.

I bet you have a really nice exhaust tone now. Glad you and the pooch are OK.
I'm always watching the rear mirror in foul weather and measuring shoulder for "escape" routes.

Getting on the "Find a Dealer" on miniusa and go to each of the websites. Lots of east coasters have decent inventories of '06 MCSs. You might find something close.

I went back and looked at the pictures again, and now I'm not sure where my vision of a buckled right quarter came from. It certainly wasn't from the photos you posted. Maybe I need to switch back to caffeinated beverages.

Glad to hear that the curbside quarter is OK, though- especially in light of your wish to keep motoring with this car.

Please do keep us posted!

Late breaking news: I just heard back from the Geico adjuster (I don't think he was a caveman) and he said between the front and rear damage it looks like ~$9000 worth of damage. They're towing it to a bodyshop tomorrow morning and who knows what they'll find when it's on the rack...

Negative thoughts: Oxygen blue is a Cooper exclusive color. Dammit[

On the positive: if it ends up totalled, the adjuster said I could strip all the mods that I can, so long as the stock stuff stuff replaces it. I'm not gonna bother with the pulley though, not really worth the effort IMHO.

Dafodildeb- I got the dog harness at Petsmart. The one we have is "Easy Rider" brand, but I'm sure there's a bunch of types out there that work equally well. The good thing to come out of this is apparently a lot of folks will be getting harnesses for their pooches after hearing about this. I just got off the phone with my sis and as soon as she heard what happened she said she going to get one for her dog. So it looks like my collision is for the greater good of dogs everywhere. I can live with that.

When I saw the pics of your car my heart sank....

Glad that you and your dog came out of it OK.
Surely that much damage cannot be fixed economically.

Trust me when I say that you want that car to be totalled. It will never be right.

The good thing is that you and your furry passenger are safe. MINIs seem to do well in this regard. Sorry you had your thoin pogged, I wince every time a thread like this shows up and I see the pictures. I'm glad that you are (mostly) fine and in good spirits, and I hope you'll be back to motoring real soon!

My condolences to your bodywork...

Glad you and the pooch are ok. I would be a mess if anything happened to my dog. Your pet seatbelt works well - my (now deceased) pal Barney the Foxhound broke a toe and ended up in cast because he hit the dash when his dog sitter got rear-ended (he wasn't strapped up like your little fella).

When I get home in the morning, I'll follow up on it...

I'm actually warming to the idea of the R56. I just with I could have R56 performance with R53 looks.

Hopefully they will have an answer for you tomorrow.

I understand how youre feeling. The looks have grown on me, the torque and the sound of the turbo spooling up has helped too Youre going to have to give me the details on your spec. Im looking forward to seeing what you get!

I went back and looked at your pictures again, gruesome. You and the pooch are a lucky pair, good thing for belts for you and your dog.

Saw your 9K plus or minus starting point, not sure where they will cut it off for a total, but I would hope for a total. Find another 06, a few are still at various dealers. Have your local MA do a search for you.

As for the R56, I love mine, it only has about 93 miles from last nights trip home and some round the city driving today. I stayed out of Boulder and away from Hwy 36 until I get the front wrapped on Friday PM with premium clear bra (top to bottom, plus a few other strategic spots).

I will attest, the MCSa and the R95 has some good power and some nice features you might find fun and refreshing.

Good luck with the repair or finding another, glad your ok.

Don
