Yesterday I got an advertisement for a cash back type card from Mini. It said up to $5000 in points back towards a mini. Does anybody know the details on this offer? How long it would last and how you would actually use the $5000 towards a new mini purchase once accumulated? I thought I read it was dollar for dollar which would accumulate enough in no time... In the quick read of the pamphlet it said something about financing and leasing. I wonder if the points apply to a cash purchase?

 

I got the email below from MINIUSA as well. It is 1 point for every $1, and double points for gas, car washes and other "motoring" related purchases. My parents have had a card like this for GM vehicles and have used their points toward vehicles in the past. It goes toward your down payment I believe, but I'm not sure on the exact specifics of how it works. I checked the website for the terms, and it says you can earn up to $5,000 back when you purchase or lease your next MINI, plus "An additional $5,000 back if you finance your next loan or lease with MINI Financial Services".

It appears that you can also use your points toward other things, such as service, parts, etc at dealers, motoring gear, etc. (it's all on the website). Looks interesting...

Edit: Had mine since 11/06 and use it A LOT. Have about 14,000 points which is almost $150. I think they might give you more per point IF you buy/lease a new MINI.

 

I haven't read the fine print, but if the value is a penny on the dollar, then it would take half a million to reach $5000! That is pretty typical of such offers.

 

If thats the conversion then its not worth it... I will be spending enough on school the next few years to accumulate $1000 towards a mini but not woth it... I will just keep getting airline miles or use discover...
