I have had my eye on that one for a while. Not much interest yet, but then MINI's haven't been around much. I think there is one at Infineon raceway this fall, Sept 11,12. I am thinking about going over to check it out. They also have a NASA HPDE going on that day. Good chance to drive a bit and see what's up with the MINI Challenge.

The stronghold of activity for the MINI Challenge is Phoenix, Arizona. Most are usually running at NASA events. I believe a total of 10 MINI Challenge spec'd cars have been delivered to owner/drivers.

Unfortunately, I am not one of those 10. I'm just running an MCS in auto-x and HPDE at NASA events. If you have more specific questions send an email to: MINIChallenge-owner@yahoogroups.com.

Here is a copy of the latest post from the MINI Challenge Yahoo! Group:
July 27, 2004 -- MINI Challenge prepared cars are having a very busy and productive month.

At the end of June, a MINI Challenge prepared Cooper visited the Golden Gate Chapter of the BMW CCA monthly autocross event. The car was classified with Cooper S's, M5's and 330Ci's. The competition format was six timed runs. Unfortunately the Cooper had a minor component failure, an over tightened cooling system bleed screw, and was forced to retire after only three runs. The driver had no seat time in the car prior to the three timed runs and still managed to place third, a Cooper S with two drivers took the top two spots.

In July the same MINI Challenge prepared Cooper participated in the BMW CCA Club Races held in conjunction with that clubs major annual national event "Oktoberfest". The races were held at California Speedway on the ALMS course that comprises of both oval and infield sections of the track. The Cooper took its class win in not one but two sprint races and also took its class in a one hour endurance race, sweeping all three races in class.

The weekend following the BMW CCA event Ali Basakinci entered the MINI of North Scottsdale MINI Challenge prepared Cooper S in the NASA 3 hour night enduro at Willow Springs. This was the first trip to Willow Springs for Ali and co-driver Doug Chernis, a track which is very fast, requiring seat time to drive down lap times. Despite this lack of track experience, they managed to finish a very credible eighth in class.

The MINI Challenge prepared cars are making an impact in events wherever they go, demonstrating the flexibility and versatility of the MINI Challenge preparation formula.
BTW, Ali Baskakinci is the sales rep to talk to at MINI North Scottsdale (Arizona) if you are interested in purchasing a MINI Challenge car.
