Our region is holding Time Trials in May. One of their requirements is to buy and mount a holder for a transponder for the timing system. The transponder needs to be less then two feet from the track surface and not have any metal or carbon fiber between it and the track. I'm thinking of mounting it to the left of the master cylinder, behind my ALTA intake. Space for this is tight! I can't mount it to the right of the radiator tank on the firewall in my car, I've used that space for mounting the oil pressure sensor for my SPA gauge.

Does anyone have experience in mounting these, or something similar? Any thoughts for a good/better location?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark...

We use the same transponder system in our club, so I mounted these many times..
I mount mine on the inside wheel well approx 4" from the ground. And the way I do it
is i drilled a couple of small holes to allow my safety wire to thread thru and lock down the
transponder holder. Simple easy and safe. Some other guys ty wrap the transponder to the grill
seems to work like a charm...

Thanks Peter! That location was the other one I was thinking about.

Paulo,

Thanks for the offer, but I already mounted it inside the wheel well, in front of the tire.

You might go ahead and post a pic forr the good of the group though (an if I decide I need a better location).
Thanks,

Mark

A word to the wise....these babies (transponders) are circa $300.00.......you might just want to think that just as what goes up must come down.....race cars that race usually have an encounter with another solid or semi-solid object sometime in their career. It is always a shame to not only have to bear the cost and sadness of repairing the damage to your baby....but also having to acquire a new transponder as well. Whether your own or the club's........
