Well, it was time to get a new helmat for this solo II season. I just got a new G-Force "Force 1" and it is just a little snug. I noticed that there is a difference in the M and SA designation. I am going to order a large to try comparing it to my medium and send the other back. My question is "is the M model okay for Solo I, we are looking to use a new local track this year for solo I this year. A quick reply would be great.

You are asking about SoloII at first but switch to Solo I at the end of your post so I will try to answer for both.

SoloII requires helmets be rated M or SA of the current rating plus 2 standards. Meaning that the current latest standard is year 2000 so you can use 2000, 1995, or 1990 with either M (motorcycle) or SA (special application) ratings.

2003 Solo regs on page 20 say that for Solo I all helmets must be GCR legal. The GCR (General Competition Rules) requires SA 1995 or newer. So, no, an M (motorcycle) helmet is not appropriate for SoloI. But then you also need fire suits and all the safety gear for road racing if you want to do SoloI.

Go with the SA2000 rated helmet! It has to pass an additional impact test and be made with fire resistant materials. On the G-Force helmets it's only $50 more than the M2000 rated helmets. Remember, at what price is your head worth?
