Backing BMW Sauber -- F1 question

I'm just curious if, lacking the usual regional/home team reasons for supporting a sports team here in the US, if BMW Sauber is the F1 org. of choice for the MINI crowd. Or is the BMW connection a little to tenuous...?

A guy I know who drives a BMW (335i) seems to have chosen Sauber just for this reason.

I'm an Alonso fan, and follow him from team to team. I've been rooting outside for BMW before I owned a Mini (which I don't look at as a BMW). To me, BMW looked like the team best able to shake up the status quo of Ferrari/McLaren.

And I dig his (Alonso) celebrations after a win, too. Bullhorns, the matador, a bird, to this:

But yes, seeing BMW take a race would be great. And guess what. I was at work yesterday I think and a guy paid using a credit card. Guess what his last name was. KUBICA. I kid you not. Kubica. I looked at him and said "One of my favorite drivers is named "Kubica." He goes, "Oh, yeah. Robert. Great guy. When I go to Poland everyone looks at me and is like 'What?'"

I am a BMW Sauber because I love BMW performance, it is just an added benefit that my MINI has a strong relationship with them as well.

Im torn this year. Ive always been a Ferrari fan since birth. My first car was a Benz and im a huge Hamilton supporter so MerMclaren is in for me too. On top of that I just bought a Mini so im supporting Sauber! I guess i'll just sit back and spectate and not choose sides. *Shrug*

I go with drivers more than teams. I picked McLaren first because I was working for Chrysler - the Mercedes connection was sorta there. And I like Kimi. Now that he's gone I cheer for him to beat Masa, and he's the only one I'm ok with beating Lewis (occasionally!). I've been a Hamilton fan for a while, and I'm sticking with him. I liked Heikki when he came on the F1 scene last year, too. And of course everyone loves and underdog, so I always cheer for Sato.
Really... I just like to watch. And I'll be pumped of BMW pulls off a few wins this year.

It's nice to see someone more like a real person than a "Leave me alone. I hate you" kind of driver Kimi.

Yeah, you're not kidding when you say long shot. I do cheer for Kubica. I have to root for my country's driver after all.
