Here's the conversation in the cockpit of the car right behind Paul, (mine):
Part 1 - coming down the mountain after the traffic cleared in front of us
Dave: He reminds me of Rob, God rest his soul, at CMP--it's all about the momentum
Rich: True
Dave: Of course, I wish he'd brake once in a while so I could judge the apex
Rich: He hasn't touched the brakes yet!
Part 2 - a very technical stretch with loose gravel
Dave: He has to slow down when we hit this gravel, right?
Rich: Guess not--he's pulling on you
Dave: I don't want to skid out!
Rich: Well, he was four wheel drifting with all of 'em smokin' yesterday
Dave: <Expletives deleted> I have to keep up or I'll never live it down!
Rich: Here comes some oncoming traffic--that truck's over the line, that'll slow him down
Dave: Nope!
Rich: Good thing these cars are small...

Lies, all lies.
I putter along like my dad used to on these same roads in our '68 Ford Galaxy 500 LTD. Like this one:
I don't even know what "four wheel drifting" is. But it sounds dirty.
I have a little switch that turns off the brake lights. I was really riding them all the way down. That was the smell. Even though it smelled like whatever Dave had for dinner Friday night, it was really my brakes.
I've been told many, many times on this very forum that cabrios, and ESPECIALLY cabrios with automatic transmissions and nearly-stock suspensions, can NOT do the things you're describing. So you must be fabricating all this.
Seriously. I laughed so hard I cried reading your post. But it's all lies. That's my story to my insurance agent and I'm sticking to it.
