MINIs Slay The Sleeping Dragon- Fall Run (Nov 2-4)

Yes, it will be tough to limit people, and i'll figure all that out this year. I figure there's a whole year to plan now. And yes, people who came to the first one would have first dibs. I am creating a list of those people now. And yes. Weather was terrlble, cops were everywhere, and I don't know why anyone would want to go!

Heh, heh.... this is kinda funny / ironic.... victims of our own success...
I participated in some "debates" about this kinda thing in the MOTD threads earlier this year. The short version is that "it's a free country"... it's possible to limit "official registrations" to "closed" events (like the MOTD banquets, brew swap, etc), but the very "grassroots" nature of something like MSSD limits your ability to control it (relatively unstructured, most of the good stuff is NOT really controllable)... The only "real" limiter to growth is lodging availability - which is what MOTD has grown to (and beyond)... with folks duking it out over cabin reservations 12 months in advance, and the "old timers" claiming there should be some kind of "entitlement" program that ensures they get a cabin, even if that means NO new people EVER get to attend MOTD...
So, eventually, when it gets out of hand, a handful of folks pick an alternate date and "quietly" do their own thing. Until other folks hear about it and grow THAT date beyond what was intended (e.g. OctCloverFest? MSSD in the future?).
Hard to have both an "inclusive community" and a "closed enclave" at the same time... though both have their advantages. Personally, I wish / hope we can replicate the experience we had last weekend in future years. But history / human nature / demographics are working against us. Unless everybody shuts the #&@! up and stops talking about how GREAT it was.

Maybe you could do it based on your disc golf score?

That is so cute. . . but there has been an open invitation fall dragon run for NAM members for the past 5 years.
I wish I could have come up for MSSD. . . . .
But here is a photo of all the MINI's from the very first Fall of the Dragon 2003
Nobody has yet to do an organized winter run, but I still want to try to get some folks to come up for a Valentine's Day Massacre on the Dragon. .. . . Who's in?

Yeah baby - Valentines' Massacre of the Dragon (VMD) - all over it...
It really is pretty funny, Yucca - I know there have been a couple of recurring fall outings of different sizes. We were never aiming to try to create a new "official" one... This one just started out as a couple of us saying "I want to go for a fall weekend, and the first weekend in November works best for me"... next thing you know, it kinda got a life of it's own. When Jason and I started talking about it, it was just gonna be a few folks from NC... next thing you know, Old Jed's a Millionaire...
Maybe the saving grace for the fall will be if there ARE a few different weekends in October and November that we do it - that will tend to keep each one small(er) and more intimate... we'll just need to do some cross-breeding among the weekends over time so everybody gets to meet and play with everybody else...

The great thing about these smaller "events" is the fact that they don't really need to be officially anything.
Just meeting up with friends and making new friends along the way during these small loosely organized dragon trips is my favorite way to enjoy the dragon.
I just keep popping into this thread because I LOVE the small dragon trips and even though I couldn't come along on this one, I could live it vicariously through your stories and photos.
I really do want to do the Valentine's Day Massacre sometime, and hopefully 2008 will be the year. Somebody get cooperation to start making the signatures graphics. LOL

How about a Welcome the New Years In Midnight Run, January 1st. It could be a takeoff on Time Square but instead a dragon falls down a pole at Deals Gap then we head out.

That's what I'm talkin' bout! (Knowing full well the wife would never, never go along with that.)

I'm sure you could get Midnight Dave to wear the Dragon suit... Though Xiek might be more into falling down a pole.
