Tire size help

long story short I bought a used 09 and she needs new tires. Car has 17x7.5 with 42 offset. Currently has 235/40/17. I'm in the north east and was looking to get A/S tires but don't seems to find the ones I want in this size. Dose anyone know if a 235/45/17 would fit without rubbing. Car has stock suspension.
Thanks
ps I texted with tire rack and they said it would rub. Guy seemed a little quick on the response

nope

https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/

Looks like you would gain ~.5" in height.. as well the tires could have more of a 'square' profile at the top of the tread, vs a 'rounder' profile. Ive even had tires same size just different brands that would rub a very small amount just from the overall profile at the tread.

*As well - increasing diameter/height by .5" is going to affect your speedo too, as well as add more tire weight. A 225/45/17 would be ~.15" smaller than the 235 and may avoid rubbing.

ie - Subaru Legacy, w/ 17x7.5 & 225/40/18: my cheap Continentals didnt rub at all .. same size, same wheel, just changed to a Pilot Sport A/S3.. and I rub ever so slightly now

235/40 tires require minimum 8" disc width according to specifications of all tire manufacturers.
235/40-17 tires on 7,5" make the stearing vague, the acceleration slower, the fuel consumption higher than on more appropriate sizes: 205/45(OE), 215/45, 215/40(OE), 205/40.

Stock suspension, I would look for a 215/45-17 tire in the specs you want. 235/40-17 seems excessive for a daily driver all season tire.

20,000 miles on 235/40's on OZ 7.5's ET42 with no issues. I need the footprint + LSD, and traction is still an issue. Replacing Bridgestones with Toyo R1R's on Friday. Lowered on Swift springs with no rubbing. Coilovers and poly bushings next. I'm lucky though as no need for A/S tires in south Florida. I'd would agree with the 215/45's recommendation. It would be my choice for a winter tire.
