jcw carbon fiber steering wheel insert installation

To install the cf inserts get two flat head screw drivers. These are used to gently pry the center insert off, start on one side and as it comes up just stick the other screw driver under the next part and it will pop off - caution: the horn will blow for a couple seconds as you try to pull the center most part out. Now just pop the new cf insert in the same way, no tools needed for this part. Next, the left and right side inserts are connected with a hex type or star shaped allen screw in the back of the wheel. I went to lowes and picked up a set of these in a wrachet type set up because room is limited if you try to put a long allen wrench behind the wheel. So use the wrench and unscrew the screws (one on each side) then the inserts will pop out, I learned the hard way and pulled the first one off without looking for a screw, but no damage was done. Good luck. They look great. Oh this was all on a regular wheel not a multifunction.

Thanks for the instructions. I don't have the JCW wheel, but I've been toying with the idea of removing the 3 silver trim pieces on my standard Multi-Function wheel and either painting them with matt black rubberized paint or having them CF wrapped. I think that Mini could significantly upgrade the look of the interior just by choosing a nicer finish coat for the silver interior trim.

cf wrap

I agree that the silver trim is not the best. I did not realize one could wrap something in cf. I have the black plastic driving lights, do you think I could get them wrapped in cf or something similar so they do not look so cheap? And if so is it expensive?

I know someone that's going to CF wrap my JCW body kit rear diffuser in a couple of weeks for $150 and I'll see if he can do the steering wheel inserts as well. If you want to drop me a private message so I don't forget, I'll get back to you and let you know how it works out. I don't see why it couldn't be done.
