Anyone's beltline rubber trim splitting?

So this just started happening after about a month of ownership. Both sides split at approx the same location (just behind rear doors) within a week of each other. Curious if there is a molding seam there that would make it prone to splitting. Anyone else having this problem? I will be checking with the dealer next time it goes in, but do you suppose it would be covered under warranty?

I don't have it. Sorry to see it. Do you garage your car, or is it in the sun a lot? Mine's in the sun 50% of the time and 50% garaged. I recently put 303 on it, and didn't see any cracks. Seems like defective parts. Would be nice if they're covered, but not sure.

Thanks for responding, f60jcw.

It's outside 100% of the time, but I would hope the trim would be a lot more resilient than that.. especially considering this is a new car. I'll bring it to their attention next time I'm in for service and we'll see what they say. I would be rather shocked if they did not cover it. If anything, this is just a heads-up for others that this is a potential issue.

What did your dealership say about it?

Just saw mine split as well.

That's a early for them to be cracking if it's your 18'. I replaced some trim on my 12' since I messed it up, found them at eMINIparts.com

Wow - looks like BMW is using sub-par quality parts. That should not split like that, even after 10 years of sitting outside.

I'm curious as to what they'll respond with. Seems like a lowest-cost acquisition strategy to me.

Dealer replaced the defective belt line trim with no issues. When I brought it in, the service writer said, “That’s odd”. Lol! Sure is!

Just had that same section (driver side, corner section behind the rear passenger door) on my 2017 replaced this morning. Entire beltline will definitely be something to review again in that last month before the warranty expires.

Yeah they replaced under warranty.

I had remembered your pic and how I thought it was funny that my split was exactly vertical as yours, but didn't realize it was in the exact spot as well until I searched for this thread again. As you said, there's gotta be something in the mold or design that's causing a weakness in that spot.
