Remove rear view mirror

Hi guys -- anyone know how to remove the rear view mirror in a F56? I have the auto dim with garage opener. Trying to remove it to find power for a radar detector.

It must come from above, via the headliner/rubber edge, somehow. I haven't explored this personally, but I would think that removing the mirror itself would be undesirable and unnecessary. I'd search for its feed, instead. If it's anything like the rear back-up camera, there's a wire loom someplace, and a click-locking DIN plug leading to a socket on the mirror housing ... somewhere. Just speculating, but I'll bet I'm right, especially since the remote/auto-dim mirror is an optional accessory.

Thanks! This was exactly what I needed. Turns out the mirror is almost identical to a BMW mirror.

I struggled a bit with getting the hard wire blade taps to stay connected, as did folks in the link you provided. Ended up using the bend 3cm 20 degrees trick from that link and it worked (for now). Also, my cord was only 9in (12 would be better!), so I had to dremal a slot near where the mirror post comes out to maximize useable cord distance.

See link for pics!

In my limited experience retrofitting my OEM back-up camera, you'll find the F-Series MINIs are virtually identical to F-Series BMWs in most ways, especially when it comes to electrical systems and coding. Mine ECU wiring and H/K head unit, etc., etc., were identical to those found in several F-series BMW models. They are A LOT more the same than is generally let on, publicly.

Well, probably the Active Tourer and X1 are closest, but the F30 shares a lot with MINI, too. Just look at a YouTube video of a review of one.
