On my charger it have 3 options.

I had to charge mine the other day as well. I'm guessing it was low due to sitting in jail for 2 months and me trying out all the gadgets in the garage . I trickle charged it for about 10 hours. I believe I used the standard setting on mine. I'll double check when I get home

I had a Battery Tender Jr hooked up for 2 Days, but it never turned green.
Steady red light indicating battery is being charged still.

When i turn on the car, it starts right up, but it gives me a message the charging system is discharge or disable or something, i forgot the exact words.

So i plan on using a bigger charger, and this one gives me the option for standard / agm / gel battery, i need to know which one in order to charge it.

Take it to the dealer. There's something wrong with it. You should never get that message. You should never have to charge the battery in a brand new car either. End of story.

Nope, you can't leave the lights on that long. They turn off before that.

I was getting the same message. After charging the battery it hasn't been back. These cars sat for a long time. If I get the warning again it will go in for service

You can't kill the battery leaving the lights on, they automatically turn off. And if you can start the car OK you shouldn't get a message saying the charging system is not working. Take it to the dealer of be prepared to jump start it a lot. They charged these batteries before delivery.

The message was about the battery discharging with the ignition off or something like that. After charging the battery the message went away so it was clearly a low battery problem.

If in doubt, call MINI or dealer.

So the Service Advisor at my local mini tells me, that these batteries are not rechargable. And is not cover under factory warranty if it is dead.

The folks at Mini are not sure if these are Standard or AGM either lol.

Not rechargable?
What the heck do they mean?
So once you've started the car some number of times, that's it?

A battery for the Cooper S. It says AGM. Are they all the same?
The same one is listed for the Cooper.

Oh wow, that's very different. Like a flashlight. So no alternator either. I'd be not driving at night much if I didn't have to! fyi I had my original battery when I traded in my 2007 Mini.

An internet search says that an AGM battery can't be reconditioned. But that assumes it is pretty dead. Is that the same as recharged?

If MINI took no precautions with these batteries, they had better be replacing them. I know you Americans are highly litigious.

I know that Optimas are all AGM Batteries.
If u were to shake a Optima, you cant feel any liquid being moved around.

Now i am not sure if there are DIFFERENT types of AGM, as the Mini ones are also considered as AGM, however with acid inside.

So different variations of AGM could mean some can be charged some cant.

I know for a fact Optima AGM can be charged because they make a stinking charger especially for their batteries.

I'd be turning the volume down on that car. No peeking at your lipstick in the visor mirror. No heating them seats!

These are AGM. Engines equipped with idle-start-stop technology usually have beefier battery, or one that allows more deep cycles.

You can bulk charge using regular chargers. Because of lower internal resistance, it'll accept higher voltage and charge at a higher rate than conventional flooded lead-acid batteries. The only thing you have to be careful is to not let it trickle charge using a non-AGM setting conventional charger. The correct way to trickle charge AGMs are to use lower voltage.

That dealer should read the Minis owners manual it clearly says on page 199-203 that the battery can be charged by the battery terminals and can be jump started with jumper cables and you can charge the Minis battery with another running car with jumper cables just like any other car. I have a 2014 BMW X1 with same type of battery and after sitting for a few months I got a low charge warning. I charged up the battery with a standard battery charger and the warning went away and I have had zero issues.
