I just took my F56 to get an alignment, and was told that I need adjustable rear control arms in order to get the camber into spec. I have ST coilovers on the car. According to the spec sheet I was given, I am at -2.5 degrees of camber on the left rear, and -2.7 on the right rear. I know having the extra camber is not good for tire wear, but is there any other reason to get the adjustable control arms? If it is something I should do, I would appreciate some recommendations as to which ones to get. Thank in advance!
If you look at the outer control arm bolt location, you’ll see the typical alignment cam bolt:
The issue with lowering Minis is the rear suspension geometry. The rear suspension is designed to increase negative camber as it compresses. When you lower the car, the camber gain will exceed the adjustment of the OEM adjuster, and adjustable arms are needed to bring it back into spec.
Whether lowered or not, rear adjustable arms will let you dial the rear camber down. A good spec for the rear is between -1.5° to -2.0°. Make sure both sides match as close as possible.
The picture above is the NM adjustable bars. I would avoid that style with the metal ball joint on the end. They tend to be on the noisy side. Fine some that either have rubber or urethane bushings.
