I looked into performing the armrest wireless charger retrofit but decided not to go that route.
After looking online I purchased and installed SCP Automotive’s wireless charger. I was very surprised how simple the install was and how great it looks.
While driving my iPhone didn’t slide around or fall off the shelf and it doesn’t block the cup holders.
If anyone wants additional information about it here’s the link:
What did it take to wire it up and how much, if any, of the center console did you have to take apart? Or does it plug into a 12-volt outlet?
Hi Bob-O,
Thanks!
The wireless charger comes with its own wire harness and 12V outlet built-in. The wire harness has its own inline fuse, looks OEM and it’s plug and play!
All you need to do is remove the trim around the 12V outlet (one piece! you don’t have to remove anything else), transfer the USB module and three metal fasteners then connect cables.
It does not plug into the 12V outlet and when installing it the module covers the OEM outlet.
Here’s a picture of the module and wire harness from their site and a link to their YouTube install video.
That's perfect. I can place the phone on there so that it's out of the way and then connect it via USB for Google Maps or Waze through Android Auto.
Oh, snap! MINI doesn't have Android Auto capability in this day and age. I hope that I still really enjoy the car without AA but I've gotten spoiled in my daily driver Chevy Colorado pickup and in rental cars.MINI and BMW sure have missed the boat on this one. But I digress.
Thanks for the install details, Rich. This is going to be one of my first mods.

Hi Bob-O, No problem at all! I have a few friends that own MINIs and they just want Android Auto to be supported and two even thought about switching to iPhone.

Hi IrishCooper, You won't be disappointed!
I would also reach out to SCP Automotive to verify the 2022 models are supported (if you are getting a new MINI).
On their website it shows support for "F55 5-Door Hatch 2016 - 2021, F56 3-Door Hatch 2014 - 2021, F57 Cabriolet 2016 - 2021".
