CPO Guidance

I have read one other thread on this so apologies if I’m starting another unnecessarily. I’m posting on this page because my question is more about the experience with Mini extended CPO rather than the Countryman reliability.

I recently bought a new-to-us CPO 2018 Countryman S with 7,500 km. Short of a couple of minor scuffs, it’s mint. I have a last chance to extend the CPO coverage. I’m on the fence and was hoping for some guidance to see if there is value to tack on a couple more years. We don’t drive much, maybe 8,000 km per year and I’d like to keep it for 6+ years.

Cost of the plans are below (in Canadian). I live near the dealer so easy to have them service it, and this is my 3rd Mini (R53, F54 prior) and it’s been somewhat reliable on the F54…the R53 was a labor of love.

5 years or 80000 km 1730$ (Useless)
6 years or 80000 km 2290$ (~$96/mth)
7 years or 80000 km 2935$ (~$82/mth)
8 years or unlimited km 4194$ (~$88/mth)

I’m not clear if the “5 year” is what the car came with, or if that is in addition to the 5th year that came with the car? I may want to start there, but would love to hear if people got value out of it.

Thanks in advance!

Its never "in addition to"

Take the $3 or $4K and bank it for future costs.

I guess that was wishful thinking.

It’s incredible how many unsolicited options were added to the purchase agreement. By the time I got them to remove their dealer fees and winter mats (it’s summer, come on), I peeled off over $800.

They are still imposing a $249 charge for Mini AntiTheft 24. They put it the car when they brought it in inventory. I guess there is a benefit for them if it’s stolen from the lot. I never asked for that product and don’t need that product.

I know they are doing their job, but they make it exhausting to fight for a few hundred here and there.

The CPO warranty, unlike the standard 4-year/50k miles bumper to bumper warranty, has many exclusions. In my experience, Mini could also choose not to cover the items not on the exclusion list. So, I really didn't get anything out of my CPO warranty. With that said, my 2015 F56 has been quite reliable with very few issues.

Don't worry about losing the last chance to extend the coverage. You will receive plenty of emails and letters offering extended warranty options before your standard warranty runs out.
