2016 Justa Automatic Prescribed Shift Points
Hi All:
I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of owning a 2016 Justa convertible with the 6-speed automatic transmission. I love the car, except for how it shifts in automatic mid and sport modes. The gear shifts seem very quick and predetermined for specific rpms rather than accelerator load. For example, in mid mode the car shifts at about 3,000 rpm for the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts (about 20 mph and 30 mph respectively). After the change to 3rd gear, it often feels bogged even though I'm still accelerating. Accelerating from a stoplight, I can be in third gear by the time I go over the crosswalk on the other side of an intersection.
Moving the shifter left to automatic/sport mode raises the rpm for these changes slightly, but the shift points still feel premature and specific to a pre-determined RPM instead of accelerator load. An all-out acceleration results in the same shifts points with jerking at the shirt points.
When using the Sport ring, the car responds to the accelerator faster, but this only makes the short-shifts more apparent. Shifting manually in any mode is the best option as I can control the RPM shift point, but in manual mode there's a 1-2 second delay in the 1-2 and 2-3 gear changes, with a bit of a put-put-put sputter as the revs decrease between shifts (similar in sound as when an S model spits/burbles, just not as sporty).
My service advisor at the dealer feels the car is shifting normally for a non-dual clutch automatic, and the sputter in manual mode is turbo lag. He supposedly reset the car to learn my driving style and adapt to it, but I can't really say this has helped much. I don't feel the transmission is damaged, rather I would say the car is not communicating speed/rpm properly and the shifts are occurring way too soon.
What are the experiences of others with the non-dual clutch 6-speed automatic transmission in a Justa? Might this be something I could reprogram with Bimmercode or another coding method? I know there's a Sport Automatic coding for the S models that delays the shift points, but I'm not sure the transmission I have is the same as the S for 2016. I'm also wondering if a plug change or sensor change could make improvements.
Your thoughts are welcomed and encouraged! I really do love the car, but this shifting behavior really diminishes the fun of driving it.
