Battery questions

I have two questions really. My 2017 F57 battery is quite dead. Is this normal for a 4yr old car with about 25000 miles? Second question: is the battery covered by the 4yr/50k warranty? I have read the warranty several times and can't find real answer? I hope someone has some experience with this.

Thanks

The 2017 warranty does talk about
extremes of temperature and how
they expect you to deal with certain
use (infrequent and/or short trips)
and prolonged non-use conditions,
but I didn’t see anything excluding
coverage of a properly maintained
battery.

Call your MINI dealer and ask them, they know best. It will have to be replaced by the dealer if it's covered under warranty.

That's not a lot of miles in 4 years, lots of short trips or time sitting in the garage. If it sits a lot your best to keep it on a trickle charger. If you buy one make sure it works on flooded and AGM batteries even better to get one that works too on lithium ion batteries too and your covered. Your MINI probably has a AGM battery.

Battery longevity depends on a few things. If you live in a very hot climate (like Florida), the battery will not last as long as others may. Also short trips with accessories on will tax the battery since it cannot always recover the energy spent. Four years is about right down in SW Florida. I have a 2017 BMW and 2019 MCS. I got a low battery indication on the BMW (as I don't normally drive the car (especially now with most eateries closed). The BMW has 7600 miles on it I bought a nice charger off Amazon to keep the battery charged during the car's longer periods of idleness. It can be used on both my cars.

Amazon Amazon

The charger works great and I highly recommend it. Both my Mini and BMW have AGM batteries. When I bought the charger I looked back on Amazon and saw that the charger I just bought was not compatible with either of my cars. Damn! So I called CTEK and talked to their service tech and was told that all of CTEK's chargers operate the same way the only difference between models is the size of battery they are capable of charging. He told me Amazon website is in error and that error is costing them business.and he is constantly answering emails and phone calls to clarify the misinformation. He also told me that if you are unsure whether your battery is AGM or not, just set the charger to the "car icon" (non-AGM) and it will charge without any issues.

CTEK makes a great charger and is now a BMW branded charger being sold for $150. It is both a "Float" and "Pulse" charger. It will (after the battery is fully charged "float charge" for 10 days and then go into "pulse" mode monitoring the battery level. When the battery discharges to a certain percentage, the CTEK will activate and bring the battery level back to 100%..

I share the above since I went though getting all the info through phone calls to my BMW dealership/Mini dealership and CTEK to ensure what battery my cars have and whether the charger would cause any issues with either car.

Hope this helps.
