We are the 3%… without CarPlay.

Apple is holding their annual developer conference this week. In their CarPlay notes, they proudly say CarPlay is available “basically everywhere”:

“Basically everywhere”. Suuuuuure.

i wonder if MINI is ever going to catch up with Kia, Hyundai, Chevy and the non-premium brands. CarPlay is cool but is it $2000 add-on cool? Nope.

it so weird to see how BMW & MINI have gone from leaders in phone-car smart integration to worst-in-class.

You're so right on this. The whole time from 2009 to present, I always had hope that BMW would step up their game and start integrating more car-play like features, to this date, none.

I drive a E90, E70, F10, R56, F56, spanning years from 2009 to 2016, in terms of infotainment, every of these are outdated comparing to much less costly vehicles on same year production. This is about the last group of BMW's I'll own. Looking into getting a Chrysler mini van next, cheap, crappy, but it comes with car-play without having to hunt for one. sigh...

You would seriously stop buying the "ultimate driving machines" and switch to a Crapsler minivan to get CarPlay, instead of optioning the vehicle appropriately upon purchase, or simply retrofitting an NBT EVO headunit to your existing vehicle (F56, E90, E70 or F10) for a fraction of what the option costs from the factory?

I guess it's just me, but I don't want to drive anything non-German ever again!

I've had CarPlay in a Honda Civic and Nissan Murano. both have sucked horribly. In the Civic I know for sure it was the Civic software. every little update fixed many issues. in the Murano, it was a mix. I. had to get a 12" cable for my 11pro or it wouldn't connect once I updated to iOS 13.1

I just got my 2020 mini and the wireless Carplay is freaking awesome. it's only been a few days... so fingers crossed.

My point being, if the car has carplay, it doesn't always mean it's done right. the few Kia's I've rented on vacay I found to be pretty good. Not sure what they are doing different than Honda and Nissan but the performance was so much better (faster connect time and responses) and it didn't care what version of phone or iOS I was using. I was able to try iPhone 7, XS Pro and 11 Pro with iOS 12 and 13.
