F55/F56 Non OEM headlight/taillight trim
Non OEM headlight/taillight trim
Hey all. I have a Cooper S and would like to black out most of the chrome bits, but would not like paying the ridiculous price Mini asks for a few plastic pieces. I've seen the light trim for a third the cost on eBay (from China). I'm sure the same is true for the black gas cap etc. Is this a bad idea? Has anyone gone this route to save some cash? Seems simple enough to manufacture but I don't wanna be disappointed in fit, quality etc.. Thoughts?
I've not been impressed with the quality or fit of the overlays for the trim rings so I'd avoid them. That is why I don't even offer them for sale.
The overlay on the gas cap isn't bad

But the factory replacement cap is a full replacement and perfect

We do have the factory ones as they are always a perfect fit

Another option you have is to vinyl wrap your chrome trim. I did this to my car and it turned out extremely well. It is not difficult to do and I actually found it enjoyable. It only cost me $35 for the vinyl and $10 for a vinyl wrapping tool kit from amazon. I already had a heat gun which made things easier. If you have any questions let me know!
