I am new to this forum, but not new to MINI ownership. I recently placed an order for a 2019 JCW, and would like to see if I could use the built in 4G SIM for hotspot capability. As I understand it since about March of 2018, new MINIs were assembled with a built-in 4G SIM to be utilized by the Mini Connected system. I know one can code the car to turn on hotspot, but what I do not know is if BMW has installed enough of the hardware to make a hotspot possible within the MINI. Since the SIM would have an assigned telephone number, I would think all the hardware is there for a hotspot except for maybe a access point. Of course I would also have to enable a data plan with the SIM (myvehicle.att.com). I have done some research on this topic regarding 4G SIM equipped MINI cars and have not found anyone asking about hot spot capabilities in late 2018-2019 MINIs.

Has anyone tried creating a hotspot using the built-in SIM in the late 2018-2019 MINI?

I have a 2019 F57 (March production). It has the 4G connectivity used for the updated MINI Connected services, but I haven't done any research on recoding it to create a WiFi hotspot. Mostly because I have no idea why someone would want to do this. But to each his or her own!
