F55/F56 Water leak
Water leak
Hello, I'm new here, though I've been reading up on here quite a bit as we just bought a 2015 Mini Cooper S 4/5-door. I participate in several other forums and have found them to be invaluable; I'm sure the same is true here.
I'll start by saying I would guess this car has hardly been out in the rain in its life. It has just 8,000 miles. The brake rotors don't even show a surface rust on the "hat" if you know what I mean; they look about the same as the brake rotors I installed on my other car in April of this year.
That said, it has rained A LOT since we got it, and it has a leak somewhere. My wife first noticed it when she parked it on a flat, level spot while she was out of town on business for a couple days - when she came back, the windows were foggy inside. Then about a week ago, my son noticed the floor was wet on the right rear. I pulled out the floormat to dry it out, and noticed the carpet was squishy when I pressed down on it. I pulled up the carpet in the right rear and found it totally soaked, with about an inch of water in the footwell. Of course, it also soaked the carpet and padding up to the front seat. After nearly a week of drying it out, it's still wet underneath.
I've contacted the dealer and I'm hoping this is a straightforward warranty repair. I'm also concerned about the wetness of the carpet and padding at this point. I am hopeful they will be willing to remove it completely and either let it dry out or replace it under warranty - it's totally soaked on half of the car.
Anyway, I've seen a few other mentions of leaks here, but wanted to see how others have gotten this resolved - I mean, specifically what was the source of your leaks, if you had one? I've heard door seals, sunroof drains...
Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

I had a minor leak in the door. Dealer does a test where they shower it with water and then look for leaks. They blamed the leak on the person who installed my new speakers. However, he was the one who pointed out the leak in the first place when the car had the stock speakers. They didn't want to understand that point and I gave up. They also fell back on the story that it is to be expected to have water in the doors as the windows are not a complete sealing system.
Just get them started by doing a leak test.

Well I am hopeful that the car will show some obvious leak; it looks like it has never been messed with at all, everything looks completely stock, original, and new.
I got a call back from the dealer, it's going there tomorrow and they said they'd replace the carpet/padding as it is so wet, then find the source (presumably before putting the new carpet IN, of course).
Meanwhile, we get a loaner until it's fixed, which is sweet. I'm not used to that as I've never had a car with a factory warranty!

Well the dealer found a clogged / leaking A/C drain, and a leaking rear hatch. Which makes sense, because there was water in the rear footwell, front footwell, and rear hatch area under the carpet - all three.
Sooooo we are hoping that's it and we can get back to enjoying the car. My wife misses it! The 2019 Cooper S Clubman AWD fully loaded loaner has helped ease the pain, I'll admit.
