Im in Minnesota and it is illegal to have anything on the front windshield so Im leary of that. I know a few people that have tint on their windshield (mind boggling) and it is an instant ticket.
Is your insurance like ours in regards to getting free windshields if they crack? If thats the case, why spend money if you get a replacement free

Because, in France, the insurance is OK to pay for one windshield damage ( if you have the option in your contract ).
At the second one, they pay again, and they through you out..............too many sinisters, you're not à "good" customer, you don't interest the insurance company anymore !!
And, at this point, it's complicated to find a new company.........

I was wondering if I was the only one. I haven't had the windshield crack yet but 3 chips already. I was debating the windshield protection film. My local tint shop offered it but I ended up passing but I would say go for it.
Unless your insurance is radically different from mine they will cover repairs at no cost (dings and small cracks), but if the windshield needs to be replaced you're on the hook for the deductible. I've had Safelight do repairs of rock chips ASAP before they could turn into cracks. This was done on my R56 and my current F56. A repair on my Suburban's windshield eventually turned into a long crack and GEICO said they would pay for the windshield, but I would have to cover the deductible. Cheaper to just pay for it myself rather than chance an increase in premiums.
My problem is that I had a look at different forums and, apparently, the film has a short life ( more or less 2 years ).
So, it begins to be an expensive protection.

So, no repair possible/authorized.
6 months later, always on a highway, a crack at the bottom of the windshield, driver side again

And now, with the new one, I'm wondering what's going to happen
The problem is that you can use this option one time, maybe two..............as I said above

And I don't live/drive in a risky place, the first problem appears in the south of France, the second one in the east.
I suspected the Mini windshields to be crappy, but I'm not sure !
Maybe the shape of the vehicule, design with a vertical windshield ( compare to other vehicules ), explains this problem...................
I got the ding in my F56 following another Mini. We were on some twisties en route to The Back of the Dragon.
