High Voltage?

Greeting all,

Had a weird encounter last night. I was about 75% done with my commute home, I'd had gotten off the highway and was on the back roads and my radar detector started giving me a "high voltage warning". I got it about six or seven times. Then leaving from a stop, my headlights blipped out for a second.

I unplugged my radar detector and turned off all non essential switches and continued my dive home.

Now this morning I went to start my car, I opened the door and everything seemed normal, but as soon as I hit the switch all power cut out. Grabbed my multimeter and the battery voltage was good (12.4 volts). I didn't have time to mess with it so I decided to hook up my battery tender and steal the wives car to get to work.

While hooking up the tender I found the ground point on the fender to be quite warm to the touch. In the process of trying to figure out why the ground was hot, power restored itself and all systems came online. I was able to start the car but I left it at the house.

Anyone have any ideas what the heck is happening? I've got about 2k miles left on my warranty so I'll gonna get it over to Mini asap.
