I ran yellows on r56 S calipers, they were great until they were half gone, then they really really really sucked, the last couple laps of a session I had to stand on the pedal with a TON of force to get the car to stop
I keep a new set as a spare backup set in the track trailer
This happened to me with a set of Hawk HPS pads. When I took them out they were glazed over and hard as a rock.
Here's a problem you can get into if you have to stand on the brake pedal with a ton of force- you can bend the inside pad around the piston. Then all of the pad wear is in the center third of the pad, which you can't see when inspecting the pads, unless you pull a wheel. This happened to me and I was inspecting the pads from the side of the calipers which showed I had about half the pad. What I didn't see was that the center third of the pad was worn down to about 1mm.
i cannot imagine that the stock run flats will be very good on track. that being said as a novice you will not be at the limits of the car. if nothing else, you will trash the runflats and have to buys some real tire
I received my r56 quick fits yesterday. i will be installing them this weekend. so far i dont see any issues with them
Love the red.
Say, if you want/need a matching red set for the passenger side, I have a set for sale. Around here we have to have a matching restraint for the in car instructor. I replaced my Quickfits with with the Quickfit Pro and would let these go for a reasonable price.
With GVC? Have you done any events with them before?
I'll be there too.
My cousin ran his 325 BMW with the stock runflats and did ok with them. He ran them at a pretty high pressure, which may have helped.
Yeah it's with GVC. It will be my very first track event. I've only ever done the 1/4 mile in my cars, never a road track.
Are you doing the Taste of the Track or the 2 day HPDE? I was planning on signing up for Taste of the Track but it only gets me 30 minutes of track time which kind of sucks. I just now saw that on Friday they do a novice day, while twice the price of taste of the track it's 4 times as much track time.
If I can manage the cost and getting off of work the novice school on friday seems to be the better bet.
Trentiles, stock run flats do indeed suck. Ran with them on 2016 JCW at Sonoma and Thunderhill. Sloppy even before hot, useless when hot. Pilot Sports on the 2013 MCS were great for intermediate level and great on Street. Will be running the 2016 JCW at Sonoma and Thunderhill with Suoer Sports and am looking forward to it.

I'll be doing the full three days. Open track on Friday. If you want to meet up, look for the Gray MCS with the maroon center strip. I'll look for your MINI, too.
Whatever you manage to get into, have fun. This is a great track. Enjoy.

I was only able to get in to the taste of the track event on sunday. I will be on the lookout for you.
I have an F55 grey S and all of the S emblems are green.
Oh, I think you will have much more fun tracking your MINI than your friends have tracking their VWs. Ah-oh, are you going to really be in trouble with that special someone....
Seriously, though, your excitement is understandable and you will be fueled by adrenaline once out there. However, the guardrail is really close in a lot of areas of the track and it is very unforgiving. Talk to your instructor about yourself, your car, what it has for brakes and tires, performance mods, etc so he/she knows how to instruct you so you can best enjoy your time out there and, at the same time, keep you safe. They want you to come back, but they also want you to go home in the same car you drove there with.
