Navigation question

We just got a new Clubman. It has the navigation with real time traffic updates. My wife recently took a trip where she had to go through Chicago. The navigation routed her through downtown and terrible traffic. I was looking at the Google map and it showed her route to be almost an hour longer than if she had been rerouted to 294 instead of 90. Are we missing something? The real time traffic feature doesn't help much if it doesn't plan a much faster route that avoids the traffic. I'd hate to have to use Google Maps in addition to the car navigation system.

Thanks.

Mine will typically suggest 1 route but if its heavy traffic time - the detours options will sometimes show another route (sometimes more, with estimated time savings). There are options to allow the navigation to select toll roads as well. Don't know chicago well enough myself.

294 is a toll road if you had it set to avoid it. 355 also.

94 or Lakeshore are pretty much the only non-toll options, which go right through downtown.

I'll have to play around with it. I'm sure she didn't have it set to avoid tolls because the route it directed her to use also had tolls.

The MINI still has the older version of the RTTI system from BMW. It does not account for traffic, it only accounts for construction/accidents that are reported and if you tell it to exclude toll roads. Maybe in a couple years we will get more trickle down from BMW and get the Advanced RTTI with the over the air updates.
