'14 S - Engine Rattle

My father just purchased a 2014 Mini Cooper S and there seems to be a rattle emanating from right around the turbocharger.

It sounds like metal on metal rubbing and only occurs just off idle, across a very small RPM range.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Sorry, but I haven't experienced anything like that yet. Welcome to the forum anyway.

If you are still under warranty then a dealer visit. I had a metallic noise which turned out to be a sensor that broke loose and occasionally rubbing, but not consistently like yours. GL

Yea, i would have them check it out, have not heard of this on the F56.

Might be the heat shield and it might have gotten bend and just touching something.

Congrats on the new to you car!!
You should still be under the factory warranty in most cases....swing by the dealer...maybe show them.
If you got the car at a non mini dealer, it will be a good way to introduce yourself, and get a (in most cases) a free courtesy inspections .

my wife's '15 Cooper does this also. Hers is an automatic and it does it if you let off the brake and the engine starts to pull you along at idle. If you stop or get into the gas it goes away.

She isn't bothered by noises the way I am, so I haven't bothered to make the dealership start hunting for the noise. I drove them crazy already trying to get rid of the suspension noises in my old '15 S.
