If you signed the build sheet which I always have my customers do its all on you. This is why we do this. I have had customers change the build 5-6x while doing the configuration.

That being said if you do not want the car, tell them. They can put it in priority 5 and its a good chance it will not even make it to their store. I have a manual and will be going sport auto next time, faster, better mpg and less of a pita in rush hour.

That's my point. Regardless of what I told my MA, at the end I was provided with a chance to review the options and then had weeks to look it over again. He may have made a small mistake, but at the end of the day it's on me.

While I appreciate the feedback in the thread, I've decided that I'm going to keep the car. It actually hit the US port yesterday, so hopefully I will have it by the weeks end.

As for suffering with an automatic when I wanted a stick... well I've had an auto for three years. I helped a friend move recently and drove his truck while he drove the moving truck. It's a stick and we sat in stop and go traffic for an hour plus. Factoring in that I sit in rush hour traffic twice a day on the weekdays, I'm not entirely certain that my desire to have "fun" will outweigh the annoyance of a stick in traffic.

Maybe it's not the route others would go, but in the end I think it's going to work out.

Dont take the blame here. You order a car once in while the staff are there all the time its a long list so they should have taken more time to review it with you and be sure the car was right, clearly you would have gotten a Manual.

I love my AT/paddle shifter as much or more than my MT Mini, and I thought that was great. PLUS your wife can drive it. My wife loves driving mine!

she has the paddle shifters on her red Countryman, hate em! they get in the way on the steering wheel...that is why i saved $15oo on my '15 hardtop 4-door

it had to be manual trans.

First. Congratulations on your new MINI!!! You are going to really be blown away at this amazing new generation. And this is coming from a multiple MINI owner since 2005.

Secondly, make sure you are happy with your decision. If your dealer's signed order does not forfeit the deposit, then re-order or locate a manual. Yes, they can sell "your" MINI, but loaded (approaching $40K) MINIs with manual transmissions do not fly off the lot. My suspicion is that they will be much more willing to "deal" on your ordered MINI (or your trade) than have you back out of the deal.

Thirdly, I have ALWAYS had manual transmission MINIs and of the 29 vehicles I have owned in my lifetime, only my 2012 Z4 and this 2015 F56S have been automatic. I LOVE my Sport Automatic F56S! Now I do deal with LA traffic, so that is a big deal, but like it has been stated, the auto is slightly quicker and gets better MPG. It truly is a joy.

And lastly, YOU CANNOT COMPARE the F56 auto/sport auto with the previous AISIN 6-speed automatic from the R56 and R60 Countryman. It is NOT the same transmission and in my opinion is light years better in terms of shift response, smoothness, quiet and performance. The new sport automatic has TRUE shift paddles (left down, right up), are slim and do not get in the way and the transmission also adjusts shift points based on the Navigation data. I cannot say enough about how amazing this transmission is.

I personally do prefer manuals, and if I lived somewhere flat, expansive, without traffic and lots of twisty mountain roads, I may be singing a different tune which is why only YOU can make the most comfortable decision. Cannot wait to see pictures!

Good luck and MOTOR ON!!

I think the AISIN 6 auto is pretty good, so the new one must be awesome. If I drove my 2011 with my eyes closed I'd almost think I was driving a stick, of course I wouldn't live very long doing so.

And I am in no way knocking the AISIN 6-speed auto from the R5x/R6x models, it's just that the new AISIN auto/sport auto transmissions are so much more improved. It's like comparing the BMW ZF 8-speed transmission to their previous 6-speed auto.

It will be interesting to drive the new 8-speed automatic transmission available in the F54 Clubman and F60 Countryman models!

I didn't even realize they changed it.
The transmission models numbers are so close, I thought they were
the same until I looked at them more carefully.
ga6f21aw - F56
ga6f21wa - R52, R53, R56, etc.

The automatic does shift quite fast. I've had a series of justa loaners with the 6 speed auto and find it hard to fault.

Plus it supposedly makes the DSG fart sound upon upshift with the S models, and whats not to like about that?

I've been sad since the day I took delivery. (Admittedly for more than just the tranny) Exactly one month ago today, I ordered my F56 S. My MA was a good sport about the ordering process, since I was throwing a lot of options at him and the system and available options were new/different since they'd just switched over to the 2016s. One thing we discussed, I wanted back on a manual transmission. At the end of the process, he gave me a build sheet to review. I looked it over, saw all my important features were there and called it good. Today I checked WW Logistics and hurray, it's got a vessel and port ETA! I saw a thread earlier that discussed using the BMW Archives VIN decoder, so I ran my through it... Sport Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters! Freaking out, I dug out the order sheet, thinking the site must be wrong or god forbid something happened between me leaving and the actual order going in. There, buried between the dozens of options (I basically got them all) it was... $1,500 line item for the auto. Clearly, I reviewed this and missed it, so I will take the brunt of the blame. But (for those of you who made it this far), what should I do? I don't really want to pay the extra for the mistake, and I'm reluctant (although not unable) to live with an auto trans for another few years. But I also don't want to wait any longer for the right car, and I doubt the dealer wants to be stuck with my one off. Suggestions? TL;DR- I wanted a manual transmission, dealer ordered automatic but it's my fault for not catching it. Advice?
Same exact story here, except in my case, it was the back-up camera. I only discovered it was missing upon delivery! I was shocked and so upset, but could only blame my carelessness for missing it amongst the 100s of options, and erroneously assuming that it was part of my numerous packages (e.g. Parking Assist). Happily, nearly a year later, I was able to perfectly rectify my mistake, thanks to Bimmer-Tech, and I now have an OEM back-up camera installed, identical to the factory unit, had I not made the ordering error. Your error will not be so easily fixable, sadly.
