for a sec i thought it'd be too bright but it actually is't that bright at all.

i would say it's perfectly doable to drive with them on and you wouldn't get pulled over.

Guessing the lower dash trim has to be removed? If yes, can anyone list the best way to do it?

tug the bottom of the lower dash on both sides and it should "pop" loose. then pull the top part of it until it also comes loose. i wouldn't freely yank it as the switch is plugged in. once removed, unplug the harness and that's it. nothing else to unplug.

Would be interested in this if it didn't start throwing codes.

MarcoPolo 12-31-2015 02:58 PM

for the record, user manual states the rear fogs (for the S models) are W16W bulbs.

tommybwell 01-04-2016 11:09 AM

I just got my car last week. I like running the rear fogs in the rain. I'm an old motorcycle and always appreciate additions visibility in adverse weather.

We have canbus bulbs I could cross ref if you want to try, as long as its canbus , should be no codes.

Well I did the swap. First thing is that the instructions in the owner manual are not so accurate. Needed to actually pop out the fog light assembly.

It is brighter now, but not amazingly bright or anything like that. At least I won't have to worry about the bulb burning out for a while, theoretically.

ok, looks like the front marker kit from gen 1 MINIs will work. the front LED marker from Ziza are bright.

Can anyone confirm what the part number is for the early production cars and a good place to get it. My dealer quoted me $164.

MarcoPolo 01-05-2016 03:10 PM

My car is a february 2014 production so you dont' need a specific part number for an early production. the latest part number is fine:
https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...aign=postreply

this is for cars with LED headlights and front fogs.

vetsvette 01-05-2016 05:45 PM

I'm paying $127 at my dealer. I found the lowest price I could online and asked my parts guy if he could match it. He hasn't let me down yet. It won't be here for seven days, but I'm having the lights enabled tomorrow while my JCW Tuning Kit's being installed. all I have to do is swap switches when it comes in.
I ordered part number 61319301806.

Your dealer retrofits rear fogs and codes for you? That's great!

vetsvette 01-05-2016 07:04 PM

Not my dealer. I'm getting the parts from them, but my indi mechanic/technician is doing the work. Everything is already there so just have to have them enabled and change the switch.

02fanatic 01-05-2016 07:45 PM

One of the best options I added to my 2015 JCW build....wouldn't be without em, even though the F56 rear taillights are much better than prior Gens.

Especially with a black car, the more lights you can have on in adverse visibility conditions the better!

I wish my lights worked. Anyone in the Bay Area done this mod?

vetsvette 01-07-2016 08:05 AM

When I had the JCW tune done to my car it was found that every module on my car was a couple of updates behind the current ones. While updating and instilling the tune he looked around and couldn't find anything about coding the rear fogs. This was using the BMW dealer computer system. Told me to go ahead and install the switch when it arrives and if they didn't work, bring the car back and we'd figure something out. He hasn't steered me wrong yet so I'm going with it. I'll post after I swap switches.

tommybwell 02-03-2016 03:27 PM

I got the correct switch and was getting some stuff done to my car at the dealer so I let them install the switch but they said the system was down and they could not get them working. I have been trying for over a week now and just got a voicemail from the service manager telling me that the regional MINI service rep said they couldn't get it done because rear fog lights are not legal in the US. I left him a message telling him if he were to walk 20 feet from his office and sit down with a salesman he could buy a new MINI with rear fogs for $100.

Is the codeing something I need to have a dealer do or can anyone do it?

buy the cable and do it yourself. hell, i or anyone on this forum can remote to your computer and code it for you. it's a joke.

vetsvette 02-03-2016 05:22 PM

I don't own a Windows machine or I would try it myself. I pick up my new switch next week. Guess I'll have to figure something out if my Indi mechanic can't do it.

if it's a mac, get fusion or parallels and run a virtual windows VM.

if you need to borrow someones, you'll need to copy about 500MB of files and intstall some software...then it's a matter of the cable and doing the steps.
