Honk When Locking Car

Hi everyone,

The owner's manual and the mini connected system both say that there should be a setting under Door/Lock menu to have the car honk when you lock the car. For some reason that's not showing up in mine. Any trick to getting it to show up?

Thanks!

If you can change it; the setting I believe is in the personal profile setting. Do you have the Alarm option?

I think wtwien might be on to something with the alarm option. When I took delivery of my car my MA specifically said it would not beep upon locking, but that the number of times the lights flashed could be changed. I can confirm I also don't have any option to make it beep, though I did change most of the other options under that menu. I don't have the alarm option.

The manuals are a bit annoying in that they are written as if you have every option and aren't good at pointing out when a feature works only when you've bought up.

That was one of the first things I navigated to in the options, and as others have pointed out, no beep / honk option, only lights. Unfortunately, lights blinking doesn't mean a hill of beans in the bright daylight. A beep at least, would have been nice.

Also annoying that there isn't a panic button on the remote. Was at an airshow the other day and completely lost where I was parked. Small car awash in a sea of SUV's and full sized trucks. A panic button sure helps with finding the car in those situations.

Would installing an aftermarket alarm void the car's warranty? I'm sure aftermarket alarms can be "connected" to our keyfob's LOCK button. Anyone with experience in that regard care to comment?

The last few cars we've owned had alarms and beeped when activated. Those were NOT expensive cars, but now an alarm is an extra-cost option -- bummer!

I had guessed that no alarm was why my MCS didn't beep.

... especially when one panics at the thought of losing one's car...

(I still have the bad habit of pulling all the way in to a space, effectively hiding my car from myself when a longer vehicle is parked in the next space!)

I just came from a standard sedan size and am still having trouble getting close enough to the curb. It makes me laugh nearly every time.

I didn't realize the car doesn't beep when locking/unlock until after as well. I was slightly of disappointed about that as well since however I also never asked about it before I ordered.

It's little things like this I'm glad I have now ha. For some reason, MINI's have never beeped/honked upon locking unless you got the alarm. Neither my 1st gen nor 2nd gen had it. I think the lack of a panic button is also silly. Oh well, maybe one day they will make the alarm standard - although that could also be annoying

I have comfort access and just tried to go into settings to have the lights flash when unlocking with the key. After setting, the lights don't flash. Is this normal for comfort access?

You guys need to hit Miracle Ear quick! I can easily HEAR my doors lock and unlock. I don't need no stinking horn or light. (and I have hearing aids).

Which lights were you looking at? On mine the lights that flash are the side scuttle lights. I did notice them change when I switched from one flash to two, but yea, very subtle and barely noticeable unless you're looking directly at them.

Ok, got them to work. Had my bonnet open so lights weren't flashing. Now front, rear, and side scuttles all flash.

At least in my current car (2008 Honda Accord) I use the honk to know all the doors are actually locked and the trunk is closed. I have a door that has a lock that sometimes doesn't work. I know when it doesn't lock because the horn doesn't beep; The lights will still flash, but the horn only honks if all doors are locked.

My last car, (2012 Jetta) ONLY beeped when locking the doors. There was no option to turn it off. It was not a quiet polite little *meep*, either. I was so annoyed by this, that I was very grateful my MINI didn't even have the option to make noise upon locking. And like said above, you can hear the locking actuators outside the car anyway.

I can hear my locks click, but I usually hit the lock bottom on the remote at least once more to be sure... A confirmation beep would've been nice....

You are not likely to hear your door lock/unlock if there is any background noise in the area, or if you're more than 15 feet away. I've tested it and I've got great hearing. I agree with everyone that a honk is very much needed. A honk can help you easily locate your MINI when you're within earshot of it. My '11 Buick LaCrosse had it and my wife's '12 Hyundai Azera doesn't have it. Very much a desired feature IMO.

I wonder if a SW update can make that happen? Incidentally, for those of you who have had iDrive in the past, how often (if at all) did BMW release a SW update, and was this free?

If we all insist that this useful and super easy to implement fix is possible, maybe MINI will listen?
