My Mini Cooper S drives like a 6 cylinder

Anyone else have this thought?
My Cooper S is only just run in but it is not peppy the way my R56 was. It feels powerful the way a 6 cylinder car does - slow to respond to deceleration and kinda sluggish. Maybe it will be different and 20k miles once it has loosened up a bit. It definitely does not feel peppy though. Someone else noted that there is not much difference between hard acceleration at 4,500 rpm and 5,500 rpm. Kind of flat I would have to say.

I agree. My R56 felt way more peppy. The F56 has a very flat power band. I "guess" that's good and what people want, but I like the way you feel the turbo kick in on the R56.

Gregory, what mode were you in? Mid? Sport?

Mine definitely feels stronger (in Sport mode) than the 2-3 R56 MINI S hardtops I drove. My MA felt the difference (again, in Sport mode) as well.

I agree about the sport mode... very peppy.
The other two modes are more relaxed (green being very docile)
It's nice to have a choice.

Remember the R56 had sport mode too. I'm comparing both normal and sport modes on both cars. The car feels spongy in normal mode compared to the R56...less connected. Sport is slightly better but still the same sluggishness

sound is a big part of the perception of speed. The F56 has significantly less interior noise due to improved sound deadening. Just a thought?
