Mine arrived yesterday, got them fitted today. With Load Warrior basket... looks kinda bad-*** if I may say so. Looking forward to loading it up with STUFF.

And happily, I think I can get it on or off by myself in 5 or 10 minutes. Still kicking myself for not waiting to order roof rails, but this isn't bad at all.

Red Bread- thanks for the idea on clear bra- just spent $10 on ebay for a 12x24" piece. Smart.

bringing this up from the dead. found a new set of q-towers with 48" bars for $165 shipped on ebay. Q-Clips on amazon for $80 brings me to a $240 total for the kit. should arrive next week. just need to find some clear film and i'm good to install...

thanks to this thread for helping me get comfortable with this solution.

Update:
finally found the time to put all the pieces together. at the end, installed

Q-Towers with Q-128 Clips
48" Crossbars
Rocky Mounts Pitchfork bike mount

the last picture shows the distance between the end of the rocky mount pitchfork and the trunk when fully open. i remember reading somewhere that there was concern over the trunk hitting it. thankfully, it did not, by a lot. or maybe it's the bike that will hit the trunk? we'll see when i mount it...

I looked at the OE rack fitted to an F56 with rails at the dealer and it said "Thule" inside. Wonder when it will be available from them? Currently, their site shows nothing available for an F56.

How noisey are roof racks on these cars? Noticeable?

Thanks in advance.

Any update on how the clearance is with the bike on the rack? I'm about to place an order myself.

I moved my racks a little forward of where Yakima tells you to put them so I could open the rear hatch without hitting. Otherwise it hits the rear tire.

They are noisy, but I don't care. Having the ability to bring my bike along is more than worth it.

I just ordered a Brass Knuckle rack from ECS Tuning. It will fit on my Yakima cross bar but does not require removal of the front wheel. It looks to be a more compact and better looking solution than Yakima's. I'll update when I get it.

F56 Retrofit Roof Rails?

I'm interested in retrofitting the F56 roof rails. Has anyone done this?

It looks like MINIMANIA may have some but their website seems to be down at the moment.

Factory ones here:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=51_9620

Think you would have to drill and then mounts those into the top ? I would pull the headliner and see if from the factory there are stamped locations that just need cut into . AKA R50 / R53 old set up factory .

Thanks

Still need to find the 44" wind fairing at a decent price because of the wind noise.
Did you end up getting a fairing? I've read that the sunroof can't open with the fairing attached, is that true?

I have one and yes. You can vent the sunroof, but not open it as the fairing sits on top of the glass.

Ok thanks. That's really too bad and it breaks the deal for me. I take it you couldn't position forward enough for the fairing to not sit on the glass?

still no mount options from Thule for a naked roof? I just picked up a Thule for my wife's Mazda 3 hatchback and it would be nice if I could get some extra parts to swap it onto my car.

Emailed Thule and this was their reply:

We are currently working on a fit for this vehicle. Please check the Fit Guide again in 4-6 weeks for update. Thank you for your patience, we are working hard to design the safest, most secure installation for this vehicle.

I am able to install my J kayak racks without removing the bungee.

Thule told me the same thing about a year ago. I'm ready to give up on them and go with Yakima towers and racks, then use my Thule attachments.

REI is having a 20% off sale on their Thule and Yakima gear from August 28 to September 7, 2015. I haven't seen anyone else selling Yakima and Thule for less than this REI sale, which they run every once in a while.

You might have to be an REI member to get these prices.

I'm not quite sure how that helps with the noise. Are the bungie cords dampening the airflow or something? Could you show us a picture or two? Thanks!
