Trick for automatics with autostop/start

So, I have an automatic. I have previously had cars that have autostop but they were manuals. If you want to "Pre-start" the car prior to a light turning green, you just put your foot on the clutch. Nice and easy. With the auto, you have to take you foot off of the break and then depress it again. I find this to be a bit jerky for my taste. I discovered a trick today. Just use the shifter and put it back and forth in and out of manual shifting mode real fast. it starts the engine and it doesn't stop again on that red light.
Yes I know you can turn it off completely, but I don't want that. I just want to be able to defeat it on demand if I need to come off a light quickly.
