No kidding. I've become accustomed to lower back pain I've had for 20-some years but doesn't mean I like it.

I went thru two first gen, and currently own a second gen. I consider myself a loyal miniac but this 3 gen has totally lost me. Maybe maybe it will grow on me. Sadly for me, for now, the attraction, the charm, the love at first sight is voooooosh gone. I will be keeping my 2010 S for a long time.

I have been reading and looking on a lot of MINI forums and no one has anything really good to say about the new design, its very ugly both front and rear but especially the front.......what have they done to the beautiful front end????

DO you think anyone at MINI knows that this new car is a big FLOP?

From reading some of the first posts, I'm not alone.

Why do all auto companies become afflicted with American obesity design? Anyone remember the first Honda, Toyota, Datsun, you name any foreign car, how they were small? Thanks to American and European safety standards, cars are getting fat. Look at the newest Fiat, a porky pig SUV.

I know the car I have was lambasted by many here, including me. It's okay, but it's still fatter. The Paceman loaner I had recently, it's okay for a "big" car, but it's not MINI.

So much for the spirit of the original (classic), smaller is better.

I don't get the front end, the grill, the bumper, the lower squared off snoot that protrudes out from the body. Who was in charge of designing this thing. the fact that it has become so bloated compared to the first gen is unforgiveable. They have ruined the whole deal. I am out. The real Mini wasn't popular for 40 years because they kept making it fatter and offer more options. It was popular because it was a cool little car the handled great and zipped along because of it's light weight. More is not always better. Maybe they will start a new line of mini's that are smaller, we can only hope. They can call in the NEW Mini-Mini Cooper

Performance/Performance/Performance

Okay I get it. A lot of you out there think the 2014 looks like "CRAP."

But for me it`s all about HP and torque and 0-60 time and handling.

So will someone please tell me how the new JCW 2dr-hatch compares with my 2011 JCW with the same body style?

If it smokes my 2011 I won`t sleep tonight. ;o)

Thanks,
Ballyrick

I guess when I wear this 2012 Cooper S out I will have to get the GranTurismo Sport.

I can only wish...

The JCW kit looks even worse in my opinion.

I do not like the idea of the taillights extending into the hatch area. The front grille work looks like it was borrowed from a Fusion or Sonata.

Overall, I will be riding in my 05 MCS awhile longer, 122,000 and going strong.

I also have my classic. Again, Mini didn't get it's status over 40 years by making so many radical changes every 5 years. MK1 to MK6, very small changes, the body work stayed pretty much the same and people loved it.

This is clearly the BMW influence on how to sell a car. Maybe poor sales will get them to rethink this new model and put it back to where it ought to be. Remember how long the original Clubman idea lasted? The round nose lived on.

Think about that one designers.

hmmmmm hmmmmm hmmmm and some more hmmmmm and I feel lost like the rest of you...lol idk im hoping they slap a nice body kit on the jcw version. it has potential.

just saw the link to the jcw im flying solo on this one but I actually somewhat like it...not enough to ever consider getting rid of my 06 MCS JCW but might consider adding a 2015 or 2016 JCW to the stable...;-)

overhang in front is too much in relation to the rear from the pic. I would like to see it myself before I can judge fair and square.

I believe that I have bought my last "new" Mini. I' m glad that I have a 2008 and my 2012 . I really do not like new design at all . Its getting bigger and taller and looking more like the Paceman.

Well I finally got to see it in person at the LA auto show yesterday and I can say.....it makes me love my R58S that much more. I was able to sit in both at the show and compare.

The Cooper is definitely an improvement and would be a riot to see it beat out an R53 lol

That weight gain is a turn off though. It's like the brake ducts and rear are sagging due to that extra fat!

Not digging the no dipstick thing. Especially as a car enthusiast like myself.

The engine intrigues me but that's about it. 2.0L can have potential, if it's not impossible to crack.

The subtle changes like windows and door locks finally on the door are making it a bit not MINI.
Why keep the circle shape if the speedos not there anymore? Doesn't make sense, and looks off.

It's like they took complaints from all the Civic and Corolla owners who previously purchased Minis and implemented them this time around.

The car looks like an R56 with an atrocious body kit.

This should be the new 1 series and the current 1 series be pushed up to a 2 series. It's way more BMW now.

This car will sell well though, it's taking the step towards Normal (aka. bigger market)

I took some photos but it's nothing that motoringfile hasn't already covered.

the jcw lower front looks like a bmw m front, especially the middle part. i wonder how the new paceman or countryman would look like, i saw that the clubman will be bigger, if its close to reidht height to the r60/61 then i could consider that one.

Not sure if anyone knows but the Turbo is towards the back of the engine.

Both the Cooper and S have 3 way adjustable shocks and electronic diffs.

Not sure how upgrading to coilovers will fair with the new suspension. These cars are heavy on gizmos.

P.S.
Those taillights are too damn big for the car, PERIOD

No, you're right. I was there and the pictures don't lie. If anything, it's worse in person.

Sigh... Exactly why I bought a used 2010 JCW. I was waiting for the new ones, but the more I read the more I decided to find a good used one, which I did.

I know it is only one thing, but the lack of center speedo was the big killer for me.

MINIs have imho always suffered from wheel gap issues but this car looks like the body isn't even bolted onto the chassis. Other than that I have to agree with everyone else who has posted so far. The front is horrible. The rear is overdone, and the interior changes are too much gone too far in the wrong direction. Sad to say...BARF!

I actually think the JCW kit helps the front, and it almost helps the rear. I just can't get past the outsized tail lights, which look like they were a copy + paste directly from the Countryman & Paceman.

But the interior - there's no body kit for that. IMHO every redesigned element of the interior is a Fail. Moving the speedo and window controls, outer air vents: circular, inner air vents: square. Angular nav & infotainment display in a round border shape. It's like Frankenstein's monster in there.

I think the only element I really like from the F56 is the S rear wing.

I'm driving my R53 until one of us cannot be resuscitated.

Uh....yikes. No. I seriously am SO glad to have my r53 now even more than before. It's raw, visceral, compared to the newer ones. That front end, I think autoblog captioned it best: "New mini cooper stuns crowd, itself" or something like that. I lawled when I read that. The rear, those tail lights are WAAAY oversized!!! I mean, c'mon, do they need to take up the whole back of the car?

No thank you, I'll stick to my r53 performance monster =)

The poor thing looks scared when you look at the front! Looking at the rear, it looks like the muffin top is growing with each generation.
