My 2019 with 8200 miles on it has the amber engine light lit up. The engine sounds fine, using only 93 octane gas, no acceleration issues.
Has this happened to anyone else yet? I have scheduled service, but I have to drive it 200 miles to get there. Should I be worried or not?

 

Do you have homestart breakdown over there as we do in th UK? i'd be worried having to drive 200 miles with the EML on not knowing wjat the fault is.
We get the breakdown free for the 1st year of ownership so can call them out to diagnose problems like this before booking in to the dealers, if it's serious they'll tow the car there

 

I think it is called "Mini Connected" here, and we do have it, but I'm not convinced anyone here would be able to help as there is no MINI dealer in the area. I've spoken to BMW before and they said they would charge me for service (even though it's a BMW engine). I think I will risk it as long as I don't hear anything that seems amiss. Worst case scenario is probably that it will belch a little extra smog until it is checked.

 

That is interesting. My local MINI dealer has no service bays. You drop your MINI off with the service advisor, and they drive it over to the BMW dealer for the actual service to be performed.

 

Yes, the same thing happens in Grand Rapids where I take my car for service. If the Mini building isn't open, I pull into the BMW garage and the same service guys do the work. In Traverse City where I live, there is no associated Mini dealer so they won't touch it. Pain in the butt.

Fortunately, the issue may be moot as the light turned off when I left the gym tonight. My guess is that I got some bad gas and he simply had some food poisoning. I filled up with fresh gas on Monday and it took a little while to work the poison out.
