Automatic Climate Control - Blower Fan Issue?
Automatic Climate Control - Blower Fan Issue?
Hi All,
My 2014 Cooper S is equipped with the automatic climate control. I love this feature, but I'm not sure if my blower fan is working properly?
Maybe it's just me, but it seems quite weak in terms of overall air velocity compared to other cars I've been in. The temperature always gets to where it needs to be in the end (which is why I'm not obsessing over it), but the system just doesn't seem to be moving that much air when I put my hand up to the vents, almost like it's all "trapped" behind the dash? The first 6 positions on the blower fan seem kind of useless to me because they move such little air, even when the air is only directed at the torso area. I usually just crank it up to 7 or shut it off entirely.
On a second note, when the blower is turned on full blast, I occasionally get an annoying high pitched squeal, like air is being squeezed through a tight gap or something. Very strange.
Are any of these "problems" normal for the F56? Or do I have a real issue here?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
-Ryan

Haven't really tried the front defrost. The 'AUTO' setting is about the same, with the only difference being that the fan speed increases and decreases at certain times like it should. I also noticed that on 'AUTO', the air comes out of every possible vent in the car, so naturally, if air is coming out of more vents in total it's going to come out of each vent slower.
I'm thinking at this point it may just be the way its designed. However, it would be nice if I could find a youtube video showing someone else's fan speed to compare...
Maybe next time I bring it in for an oil change I'll ask to sit in another Cooper S and compare.

Interesting. When I hit auto the fan speed does not change. The speed seems to be manual. If I remember correctly the ac fan would run faster until the car was cool on my r56.
Anyone else notice this behavior?

Mine seems to not flow very much until you get to the last quarter of the dial I suppose
I'm also getting hot air through when it set to cold (AC off) which is annoying. I set it to add no heat to the outside air but it still comes through warm - I think it's just the engine

Yep my R56 set to Auto would hike the fan up until it cooled off the interior. My R58 doesn't have Auto Climate Control and it's one thing about my 2007 R56 that I do not miss. And my fan blows pretty hard. I've never used the top setting yet.
